    Thumbs up Meatloaf glaze

I swiped this from the meatloaf episode of "Throwdown": equal parts ketchup and balsamic vinegar - sweet and tangy.

Any others I should know about? (Just made meatloaf for the first time in about a dozen years!)

I haven't had meatloaf in ages and this sounds yummy - it's cooled off here again (can't decide if it wants to be early spring or summer ) so maybe meatloaf will be on the menu this week - love, love, love meatloaf sandwiches the next day!

I usually add brown sugar to the ketchup, vinegar mixture. Yummy!

I use brown sugar, ketchup, yellow mustard, w'stershire and a few drops of Tabasco.

Oh, but if you let the glaze crust onto the outside of the meat you get a sticky, carmelized glazy crust....

Here is my favorite meatloaf (meatball) recipe and the sauce is really, really good. (It was an old Church Potluck recipe). I have made it as small cocktail type meatballs, large single serving meatballs and as a couple of meatloaves.

    Smokey Meatballs

    Meatballs
    1 can evaporated milk
    2 eggs beaten
    ½ cup chopped onion
    2 tsp salt
    ½ tsp pepper
    2 tsp chili powder
    2 cups oatmeal
    3 pound hamburger

mix well and form into meatballs. (20 large meatballs or 60 small meatballs) Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Remove grease. Pour smokey sauce over meat balls and bake an additional 20-30 minutes.

    Smokey Sauce
    2 cup catsup
    1 ½ up brown sugar
    ½ tsp garlic powder
    1 T chopped onion
    ½ - 1 T liquid smoke

    Stir all ingredients together.

That's pretty much the result I got, Jewel! But I think my mother never put anything on top of her meatloaf - I seem to recall being surprised seeing something Martha Stewart put together ten years or so ago, and I was curious. But I think this is the first time since then that I actually made meatloaf it .
And I used to be horrified by the notion of a meatloaf sandwich, but have enjoyed two lately. Wow, I've become so sophisticated in my old age
