Smile Review: Grilled Tenderloin w/Warm Veg Salad Aug 2001

I made this for supper last night. The vegetables were very tasty - although I goofed and grilled all the veggies at the same time on one pan, so my tomatoes cooked a little than they were supposed (but turned out great anyway). I would make the veggies again for sure as a side dish. Actual beef tenderloin was $8.99/pound at the market yesterday, which is high but better than some days - I wanted to buy just the 1 lb. called for, but they were only selling packages of 2-lb with three huge fillet mignons in each. I decided to opt for the cheaper "mock tenderlion" filets that were available for a lot less money. They cooked a litle longer, but still tasted good. Also - you'll discover the recipe is one of those not really a recipe recipes - add salt & pepper to steak and grill or broil it was the extent of the grilling instructions! Well - since I was using a cheaper, less tender cut of meat, I seasoned my steaks with a yummy steak seasoning blend that has meat tenderizer in it. The veggies go well with any kind of meat. I used the broiler to cook the whole meal. Next time, I'd broil just the veggies and grill the steaks.

Thanks for the review. I have had my eye on that recipe for a couple of weeks, and waiting for a review. Okay, now I can go ahead and put it in my menu plans.

Yes, this is very good. I made it exactly like the recipe says except I didn't have yellow squash and used all zucchini. I will repeat this one!

We also had this a few weekends ago and really enjoyed it - especially me since I didn't have to cook anything on the stove or in the oven! With my veggies, I went ahead and cut them into bitesize chunks and grilled them in a grill basket - worked like a charm. I also added portobella mushrooms to the mix. I'll add mushrooms to anything I think I can get away with

    Me too!!

We enjoyed this very much!! It will be in our rotation as long as those fresh veggies keep coming. I also added mushroom, can't get enough of them.

I was eyeing this recipe this morning as I re-looked through my August CL for this week's menu. As heatherfeather said, the recipe did seem more like just a recipe for the vegetables. The beef part seemed pretty obvious. I think I will make the veggies as a side to the Saucy Sirloin Steak thats getting such rave reviews.
