What to serve with coq au vin?

    Hi all,
We'll be making coq au vin for dinner for V-day. Any thoughts on a light appetizer that would go well with it? Also, besides egg noodles, what could we serve as a side dish that would complement it?

Any thoughts would be appreciated! Thank you!

The last time I made coq au vin, I served ratatouille as a side.

What about gougères? You could even stuff them with a little shrimp or crab salad and they'd still be light.
Or if you're thinking more a starter than an hors 'doeuvre, maybe a fennel and blood orange salad? Or greens with winter fruit and a citrus vinaigrette?

I can see egg noodles or garlic-rubbed crostini as a basis for the coq au vin, but not as a side dish. Green beans amondine would be nice on a platter, passed, as a side.

We love coq au vin with fingerling potatoes tossed in a little butter and fresh parsley.

I serve wild rice with mine, and roasted asparagus.
