My son has one (he's almost 5) - he played with it for about a week but hasn't touched it since. I think it depends on the kid.
He really wanted it because his friends had them and were talking about them at school (also because they run a lot of commercials). The noise they make started to annoy me after awhile (we try to have only toys that don't make noises in our house). Also, They don't work well on carpet so you need wood or tile floors or the 'environments' that they sell. They must be doing well because they have such a wide selection at the stores. Price isn't too bad and you can usually find a sale
My 4 yr old loves hers, but my 7 year old isn't interested.
The do have lots of cool looking ones now.
Toys R Us has 2 for $9.99 Fri & Sat
The World doesn't revolve around you...you're just dizzy
I bought a couple for the Toys for Tots drive here after my experts (a mom and 5 yr old shopping at the same time) told me they were a lot of fun, but they advised against the extras as too much time and space taken up with things that in the end limited them and meant more stuff had to be put away. They sid they had cousins who had the track and didn't use it much, but they all loved the pets.
