Wanna see my baby blue bird?

He fell out of the nest Saturday and couldn't fly yet. Mom and Dad are feeding him and so far nothing has turned him into dinner. He is so stinking cute. No fear of me. In fact, last night he was eating on my windowsill and when his parents were taking too long to bring the next bite he was tapping the glass and chirping at me! Not sure what he wanted me to do. LOL. He can fly almost 3 feet at a time now.

Big brother showed up today. He can fly but is afraid of me:

He wanted you to chew some worms for him, of course!

I love their slanty heads!!! No cardinals here and I miss them so much, the Steller's Jay is the closest thing we have to a bird with a slanty head.

That's a baby bluejay, but he's still cute. I have raised them, too. They seem to be somewhat accident-prone!

Great pictures. I raised a couple of Stellar jays for a few days until they fledged. I think the nighbor's cat did in at least one parent. The nest was in my cherry tree and there were a lot of adult feathers underneath it. I could never get them still enough to take a picture.

We had Stellar's Jays when we lived in Washington State, but back east there are only bluejays. They're too raucous and aggressive for me to like them much, which is a shame because they're basically a pretty bird with neat markings.

Adorable! I've never seen a baby bluejay before, although we once used to have a nesting pair in our tree, when we lived in Indy. He's so delicate and handsome.

I have discovered something interesting about blue jays. They are the bird kingdom's alarm system!

If there is a cat in the yard, blue jays yell a strident and raucous, "C-AAA-T!", repeatedly. All species of birds in your yard will fly high into the trees, or out of the yard.

I thought that was so amazing that I practiced making the noise. Soon I could make the birds fly, too. What a lifetime achievement! (Hurts the throat, too.)

When watching the movie, "Milo and Otis", there is a scene in which the cat is crossing a field. In the distance you can hear, "C-AAA-T!"

I've read that you can actually put birds back in their nests if they fall out. It's a myth that the parents will reject them. That is, if you can get to the nest

Now I'm wondering if anyone knows why a bird would continue to fly into my window? Every time I go into my bedroom, it is sitting on the same branch, then darts into the glass window? I closed the shade so it would see it, but it still darts for the window. I feel bad for it, but don't know what I can do.

It's because it's seeing its reflection and thinking that it's another bird and is attacking the "other" bird. Closing the shade makes the window even more reflective.

    Interesting reading

Oh that makes sense. So when I scare it away when I walk in the room, at least I'm saving its life. I wish he'd find a new tree limb to adopt. I love walking into my bedroom and seeing the birds, but now I feel sorry for them.
