    A sad day...

Two friends, both in their 70's+, died last night at about the same time -- both from cancer. While I believe they're in a better place and all, I'm still sad that these two lovely ladies have left my life, and I grieve for their families and friends. Now, waiting for the next shoe to drop... <sigh>

Cookieee -- no, they weren't related. We were all in a book club together, and one of the ladies went to my church. She was in water aerobics until this last bout of cancer, and we even named a stretch after her!

I'm so sorry for your loss but also so glad they knew you as a friend during their lives. I believe you brought a lot of love and light to them during their earthly time which is perhaps all we can do for one another. My prayers are with you and all who loved these ladies.

Losing one friend is sad enough, but two in one night...I'm very sad for you. Praying for all who knew and especially those who loved them.

Thank you both for your lovely thoughts. One of the ladies had a quaintly ribald sense of humor, that you would never have thought by looking at her -- she played the organ in church!
The other was a teacher, and I didn't know her for long -- she had been battling the cancer before I first met her... she was part of the book club, and I kept referring to her as "Figment." Turns out, she loved that I did that, and even though we didn't see each other often, we kept in touch on Facebook!

I'm so sorry to hear you are going through this. There is never a good time to lose someone dear to us, but it seems the older we get the harder it is. Maybe because as we mature, we feel things more deeply, we value our friendships and loving relationships so much more than when we were younger. Hope you can get past this sadness soon! ((((Kay))))

Oh, I'm terribly sorry! It's hard enough to lose one friend, much less two in the same day. I've been in the phase of everyone I know losing family for several years now and steeling myself for the next, inevitable phase.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your two friends. They are at peace and free of pain and illness, but their loss causes such sadness for those left behind who loved them. Your friendship was a blessing to them.
    Peace to you.

Thank you all for your good thoughts and sympathies.

I am trying to hold on to the thought of their pain and suffering being over, and of their families -- how difficult it will be for them to learn to live without these fine women. Really, my pain is nothing compared to theirs.

I am blessed to have gotten to know these ladies, and to be part of their lives. I hope to live up to their friendships, so freely given, and to their examples, which are a testament to their characters.

I have been really blessed to have received kind words from one of the families about my friendship with their mother. She has taught them well -- they must be lovely people, too.
