Thumbs up Review: Grilled Eggplant-Tofu-Steaks / July CL

We made this yesterday and loved it!

    I made a few adds/mods/comments as follows:

    - Used my Tofu Xpress to press the tofu for a day, then marinated it for 1/2 day in Trader Joe's Island Soyaki sauce.

    - I added a couple more serrano peppers to the 'hoisin bbq sauce' because we like very spicy.

    - We loved both the eggplant and the tofu but the tofu was our fave.

    - I served the 'steaks' over rice and had a cucumber salad side.

I'm usually not a huge fan of eggplant but this sounds great. The best eggplant recipe I have tasted was a lasagna that had eggplant slices instead of pasta.

This does look good but DH HATES eggplant so I don't think I'll be trying it. Years ago I told him that his aversion to eggplant was because it wasn't prepared properly. He loves anything with cheese so I whipped up a batch of eggplant parm. He took one bite and immediately got sick . I haven't bought an eggplant since.

This is one of my favorite combinations - and two foods a lot of people hate.
You must have felt awful, mcgee, but at least you/he truly tried. Ex-DBF always says he hates eggplant, but not only does he love my "rigatoni ala ratatouille" --with chunks of eggplant-- he also eats an eggplant and tofu dish we get at a neighborhood Japanese place. I've yet to get a good explanation from him beyond, "And the name is gross." I told from there on out it was "aubergine" for me!
