    Recco's for light weight vacuum?

Let me start off by saying I hate housework! DH has been taking care of the floors, but he is having a hip replacement on Thursday, so you know who is going to be responsible for the vacuuming.. I tried to vacuum the stairs[tri-level ] and the carpet at the top of the stairs, but the vacuum is too heavy for me. DS vacummed for me when he stopped by today He also wondered why we have a vacuum that weighs 400lbs. We have hard wood floors except for the two rooms downstairs.

So, any reccs for me? MY plan is to get this house in order and then hire someone to come in every two weeks.

I bought a Riccar last year. It is extremely light (8 lbs) and is made in the US. So far, I really like it.

Our Oreck is about the same 8 lbs. and so reliable that I have accepted having a separate hand held for the attachments. They are also US made. We bought ours 12-13 years ago and take it in once a year for a check up. They are included in the price on our model for 21 years -- now they have a lifetime version.
