    Weird DW thing...

maybe there's an electrician amongst us that could answer this?

Our 6 m/o dw wouldn't turn on last night. dead. this happened once before. It's hard wired in. This morning, my husband flipped the breaker.

Last night, he ran the garbage disposal and that worked fine. SO if the gd and the dw are the only things on that breaker, could it be the dw is bad or the panel is bad or something else? just doesn't make sense....

I went through the manual and the online FAQ like it suggested and didn't see anything like that listed.

    Thoughts anyone?

Do you have another switch on the wall that controls the dishwasher. We had this in WI as a safety and if someone was wiping the walls or accid. flipped it, it could not "read" the signal.

    Wiring could be loose.....

    not an electrician...sorry.

If the GD is still working, I doubt the circuit or panel is bad. Could be the wiring to the DW, the connection or the DW itself. Can you turn it off at the panel, pull out the DW and make sure the wire connection is secure? That could save you a service call if the wires were hastily joined nad have come loose. While you have it out, I would also look for any signs of other possible damage, including a critter chewing on wires. We have one kind of ants that can interfere with electrical, squirrels, mice and maybe others that will chew on wires. If yuor DH has or is comfortable getting a circuit tester (HD or other hardware store --$10-20) and using it on the wiring, that should tell you if the circuit is bad.

If that all seems good, I would probably make the call on the DW first since it is under warrant and you will have ruled out most of the electrical issues. Sounds like you may have gotten a DW with a bad part, and you want them to fail during warranty. And at least it isn't the AC! Hope it;s minor, covered by warranty and you can get a service call and any parts soon. And that the AC stays healthy too.

I think DH said he pulled it out and looked at it to make sure it was wired n securely. I would have thought if he saw something like ants or whatever then but I will copy and paste this and send it to his iPad.

We bought it at The Great Indoors and that place is going out of business. I knew it was just a matter of tme until that happened.....

    it's just weird, me thinks.

Is there a chance that the dishwasher is on a GFI outlet and that may be tripped? Another possibility is the door switch may be broken. The door switch turns off the dishwasher if you open the door while it is running. Often times, if the door switch is broken, the dishwasher will not do anything.

I'm sure it's still under warranty, so if you can't find an obvious problem, I'd just rather call for a repair. I agree with the others - it's not the breaker if the GD still works.

I will ask DH about the GFI. But if that's the case, why did the garbage disposal work? They are on the same circuit or is that not the same thing to consider?

The DW doesn't have a swtich that I know of. The panel is on the Top. It's electronic and only activates when the panel is on. However, you can shut the dw all day long and if the panel won't turn on, nothign will happen.

My husband said that the breaker is not bad because if the breaker was bad that the disposal would not work when the dishwasher doesn't work, if they are on the same circuit. If it has a good connection then the problem is with the dishwasher.

We had that happen last year and it turned out to be a fuse in the control panel of the dishwasher. Service guy had to order one but left instructions for DH on how to swap it out, it was an easy fix. Hope yours is as simple!
