Is anyone using MacGourmet or other Recipe Manager for a Mac?

I am looking for a recipe manager for a Mac. Have done some research and none of the programs out there seem to be "perfect."

It doesn't look like MacGourmet provides nutritional info (unless i missed it in the write up). Living Cookbook does not have a Mac version. MasterCook has a Mac version but you have to download something else first and I am skeptical of this - too many opportunities for things not to work properly.

Paprika looks like a nice program but only provides nutritional info for those recipes you have downloaded that include the nutritional info.

My criteria are: easy to use (i.e. easy to enter/download recipes); nutritional info for recipes and/or ingredients, ability to share recipes and make cookbooks.

Would love to hear about your experiences. Really need to consolidate once and for all!

DD1 uses Yummy Soup, and likes it a lot. It seems to fit your criteria.

I use MacGourmet and you can use it to provide nutritional information. My recipes either have nutritional information or they have nutritional stats that I don't want to know so I don't use it to calculate recipes generally but it appears to be workable.

I have the iphone APP for MacGourmet which is convenient. I tend to use it for recipes I cook a lot so if I am in the store, I don't have to kick myself because I forgot a lime or some ginger root.

There is a demo you can download and the developer in my experience is very helpful in responding to questions for support.

I use MacGourmet and I also have it on my iPad. I like it, but I'm not interested in nutritional information so that's not an issue for me. It's nice to have the recipe on the iPad so I can prop it up on the counter; that way I don't have to print it out and waste paper.

A friend of mine uses Paprika and loves it, but we haven't discussed pros and cons.

I’m one of the owners from Juicy Cocktail and we make a OS X recipe app called Delicious Recipes and my opinion is hence biased. While we also aren’t perfect, and let’s be honest, everyone has different needs and makes different compromises, you’ll find everything what you need in our app.

Nutritional info isn’t automatically fetched and we also don’t provide recipes, because we believe in the core that a recipe manager should only have your own favorite recipes that you collect elsewhere.

An update for Delicious Recipes (especially for the iPad) is overdue, but the app works perfect even under the newly released Mountain Lion and we try to have the best support out there and respond in no more than 48 hours.

You can share your recipes with a gorgeous looking template via email and also print or export the whole recipe database as a cookbook to a PDF file if you like.

The most important thing is that our app is really easy to use, so that you won’t get lost. Even in this case we’ll help you and won’t ignore you, like a lot of our competitors do.

I hope that I could give you a balanced overview. Feel free to ask questions and check the app out on our website or on the App Store.

It would be shady to sign up as a normal user, praise the app, and don’t disclose anything. I signed up with an account with our company name and stated very clearly that my opinion is biased.

I thought your post was helpful, but I don't know all the terms and conditions of posting here so I can't tell whether you were over the line or not. You did disclose, which I thought was appropriate.

I don't think it was your communication skills or the message.

This is a fairly small community and so people tend to be protective and suspicious of someone who joins solely for the purpose of furthering their economic interests.

If (for example) you had become a member of the community and posted for awhile, no one would have had issues if you recommended your own product or services.

You joined and posted solely for "advertising" value.

OK, thanks for clarifying this. I didn’t mean to do it and I’m sorry if it looked that way. I stumbled upon this thread in my feed reader. We’re just a small company, my wife and I to be precise, and we made the app to satisfy our needs, just because we love cooking together and have the necessary programming and design skills. I didn’t join the community solely for the purpose of advertising. I didn’t even know it before. We’re generally interested in cooking and you’ve to start somehow. It looks like I did it the wrong way in this forum. My sincere apologies.

We're a forgiving group. If you are interested in food, stick around.
