Pam and Valerie, reading what you wrote is why I love this board. You both made me smile, and I appreciate the support. It's not always easy to "fess up" to your mess ups.

Valerie, I'm walking again too, which I haven't done in almost two months because of the heat. It's zapping heat. And we're not out of the woods, but I'll take the low 90s any day over 100 to 105+. And this Friday and Saturday, we're supposed to have highs in the high 80s! That sounds like paradise to me!

I'll check back in after weighing tomorrow night.

Denise, I can't imagine what it's like to live in that kind of heat. DH is from Fresno, says he got used to it but he hates it as much as I do now. I am non functional after about 80-85 degrees. I can't cool myself, get ornery, and am a total PITA to live with. I'm perfectly happy with 40 degrees and raining. I'm almost always too warm and am always the one trying to turn up the air conditioning. I went to AZ once when it was 116 degrees for a wedding. it almost killed me.

Valerie, you made me laugh! I'm from Dallas and have always lived in the deep south, so very hot weather in the summer is the norm for me. But it's getting hotter these days . . . kind of scary. On the other hand, I don't know how people live up north. Seriously. When it gets cold here, I rarely am outside. When we have snow (which we do pretty regularly in the winter since we're in the mountains), if it's on the ground over three or four days, we're all going crazy for it to be gone! And I love having a big garden that starts producting in early July, and I love that we can spend three or four months in our pool each year. I guess it's what you get used to. Honestly, I could never live anywhere else.

I weighed in this morning and was expecting a gain, but instead, I stayed the same. That's okay since I lost more last week than expected. It seems to be a pattern where I lose for 3 -4 weeks, and then nothing. My food has been decent, but that 1/2 cinnabon I had yesterday (my twice a year indulgence) wasn't going to help. I would have eaten the whole thing, but then realized it was 23 points! I ate half of it and dipped into my weekly points, but I had them to use. That's what they are there for.

As for the comments on weather, I love the heat. Just give me a shady place to sit, and I am good forever. I hate the cold and live in a cold climate (not by choice right now). Don't get me wrong, I love my AC, but I don't feel the need to have it at the Arctic setting like stores do. If I could find a place where the temp is in the 80's year round, that place is for me. Wait, that sounds like Hawaii.

Ha ha... I disliked Hawaii ... you KNOW what's coming here.... it was too warm!! I can seldom get air conditioning anywhere near low enough to be comfortable, which for me is around 60. I love to exercise ( as I've reminded everyone endlessly) but as it warms up I need to switch activities. at 70 -80 degrees I can bicycle but not much else. way too hot to hike or work out any other way. I don't like swimming. My worst destinations when I was working were meetings in Florida. worst place I've ever been, absolutely the worst. heat AND humidity.
anyway, it might get to the mid 90's here and in keeping with northwest attitudes there are a bunch of high heat warnings etc. so we'll turn on the air and look at the next two days as "survival mode. "

cinnabon? I've never had one. probably don't need to learn what they taste like though they smell good. my big indulgence these days is a small bit of home made ice cream. about a tablespoon in a small dish so it looks bigger than it is.

Good morning everyone! I had a great weigh in yesterday. Not only did I lose the 2-1/2 pounds I'd gained last week, I lost an addition 1.4 pounds. I was almost dancing around the room! My leader asked me to tell the group what I did differently, and I did. I planned every meal and every snack. I ate mostly power foods so I really wasn't very much into my "extra" points this week. I measured everything (which I'd stopped doing -- and it was eye-opening to say the least), and I moved a lot. Almost a perfect week. I know that I won't have weeks this disciplined much of the time, but it was really good for me to see that if I followed the plan to the letter, I'd be successful. And it was most definitely the motivation I needed.

My closest friend and her DH (who's my DH's oldest friend) are coming for the weekend. She's the one who motivated me to join WW over a year ago. And I've planned every single meal.

I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend!

Might get over 90 here today, happens infrequently here. still pleasant this mroning.

got a pleasant surprise this morning... down 1.2 lbs. the first 5 lbs are still gone so I'm happy. not fast but going the proper direction.
I've been consistent... nothing dramatic. emphasis on portion control of food I usually eat. DH is trying to lose a few lbs too so that might help. always better when everyone is "on program". we are traveling next weekend to visit family. they usually eat such awful food that it's not hard to stay restrained but it's hard to get in our usual activity. since they're very inactive. might take us fishing, not a big calorie burner.

I keep wondering what happened to Stacy, who kept this thread going for so long. Hope she's still on program and maybe will check in with us again sometime. Anyone know?

Thanks for the support and words of encouragement! It WAS a big day for me!

We had good friends here for the weekend, and while it was a blast and I cooked like crazy, by last night (three days into my week), I had used 16 of my 49 extra points. Last week, I didn't use any. I made two different low-fat quiches (we have laying chickens and sell organic eggs, so we eat a lot of eggs in my house) and a big salad for lunch Saturday, Hawaiian chicken quesadillas for supper Saturday night, and a big country breakfast Sunday morning which included my DH's angel biscuits and low-fat turkey sausage gravy. Lots of indulgences, but Lynne and I calculated and counted every single point. We also had wine with supper and pomegranate mimosas with Sunday breakfast. So even with buckling down the rest of this week, I will probably be very pleased if I do no more than maintain. Lynne and I did walk both Saturday and Sunday, though.

And our high on Saturday was 68 degrees!!! There was a slow rain all day, and we actually got 1.6 inches which we desperately needed. Saturday evening, we had to get sweaters to sit outside on the deck. I hope that it's cool Labor Day weekend as we're heading out for another camping trip. This cool weather, though, is so very unusual for summer in the south.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Even tho I was afraid to get on the scales this week after the gain last, I did. I lost 1.4 lbs on the scales at the fitness center and 1.2 at home. I use the fitness center ones as being more accurate and always wear the same clothes and pretty much have a cup of coffee before heading out. I do feel like I have lost more. I went to the chiropractor this morning ... haven't been in a few months and the first thing he said was 'did you lose weight?'... hurrah! Slow and steady wins the race I guess. I didn't work out 2 days this past week, out of town once and my back went out.. so back at it this week.

I've had weeks when I ate into my WP and lost more than some weeks when I only ate my DP. You never know how your body will react.

You're absolutely right, Cafe Latte. I've had perfect weeks and lost nothing, and weeks when I used most of my extra points and lost. There are so many variables. I had a great weekend, though, and I love that we can indulge occasionally and still follow the plan.

Congrats from me too Casey. I think you're doing great!

Hope everyone is still on program and losing. I'm trying to keep our thread up close to the top.
I've been active and watching diet closely. enoying my margaritas with zero calorie mix. so good!
weather is cooling down a lot, good news to me. never had enough hot weather to get any decent tomatoes. we are getting corn now but it's small. we grow a couple kinds but one doesn't ripen until mid september. might not get any peppers this year, and even the zucchini, which usually buries me, did not produce many this year. I was at first thinking it must have been the kind we planted, but when I look at the tomatoes.... maybe it's just been a cooler than normal summer.

Valerie, our garden was pretty much a bust, but because of the excessive heat and no rain. We watered almost every evening, but it simply wasn't enough. Oddly enough, the one veggie that thrived was our tomato plants. I bet over the course of six weeks I pulled 500, and I'm dead serious. I only put up 8 pints of purple hull peas, and we froze about 10 packages of pretty decent (and so sweet) corn. I also froze peppers, but our potatoes, onions, butter beans, squash, zucchini, and watermelons either didn't produce at all or we got one or two meals from them. My herbs on other hand thrived. We've got enough pesto in our freezer to last several years.

I weigh tonight, and I think I've had a pretty good week. Kind of indulged a bit with company last weekend, but I've followed the plan and hope for at least a little loss. I never have a clue until I'm on that scale.

I've been enjoying my DH's homemade wine coolers -- so refreshing when it's hot. But we're in the lows 60s at night now! Woo hoo!

I am still struggling along...I am having difficulty in controlling my urges, well guess controlling my reaction to my urges. I pulled something in my back last Saturday and have not been sleeping well and just haven't gotten back to well yet. But I haven't totally given up and will get back in the swing of things.

The weather has been really nice here the last couple of weeks and the nights have been cooler. I have about 8 tomato plants and 3 of them are producing, the rest are leaves only and have grown but no tomatoes or only a couple. My zucchini and yellow squash never did a thing. My regular eggplant got 2 and then just sat there, it is blooming again so maybe I will get some more. The long skinny eggplant keeps producing but my peppers had 1 pepper and then nothing. the raspberry bush has raspberries on it but they are not juicy as in past years, just red and on the dry side. It has just been too hot and dry, still dry here but it has cooled down.

Have a great week, will look forward to seeing what everyone has been doing...

Thanks for bumping the thread up. I weighed in this morning and am down 1 lb. After no loss last week, I was expecting something, even though I went out to lunch and dinner a couple of times this week. I was good in choosing healthy foods.

When I first started WW last March, I never could imagine that it would work as well as it did for me. I've lost 29 lbs and still can't believe it at times. I have some clothes that didn't fit that great and I was hoping to lose a few so that they they would look better. Well, they are just too big and I never did wear them again. I've been tracking my weight here and there on fitday.com since 2001 and I weigh less now than I did then. Even some of the clothes I bought at the beginning of the summer are getting to big (capris mainly). I haven't tried any of my jeans on yet, but I know I will be needing new ones too. That's a good thing, since I would rather be buying smaller sizes than larger ones.

dcollier - good luck at your weigh in tonight.

Good morning everyone! I lost .2 lb. last night. I really hoped for more, but I had a very good weight loss last week, and I know that it's all relative. When I got home last night, my DH suprised me with home made pizza (he made a whole wheat crust) with turkey sausage and turkey pepperoni and lots of veggies. It was wonderful, and we celebrated what we've both lost so far.

Pam, I've had periods where I really struggle too. It's just the way it is. And when you have something physical going on, it's even harder. Hang in there.

Cafe Latte, you are doing great! You've lost a lot of weight in a very short time. And I know what you mean about clothes. I'm actually in a clothes crisis. This week, I took two boxes to a community outreach place that clothes the poor, and I took over 30 items to our one and only resale store. I am down to so few items to wear now. It's hard for me to spend much money on clothes since I've still got a ways to go. I did buy myself two pair of skinny jeans, though, and was very pleased with how they fit.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Denise and Cafe Latte congratulations on your losses (and anyone else that lost this week!)...any loss is a positive move. I finally got up the courage to step on my scales this morning...it is showing the same weight...guess my feelings of weight gain are due to my feeling under the weather lately. I'll keep plugging away and see what happens...

Have a wonderful weekend. If your weather is nice get out and enjoy it...the year is passing much too quickly!

I'm checking in, will be gone for a few days. visiting SIL & BIL and an aunt in assisted living. these visits are not good for loss... I'm inactive so the goal is not to gain. SIL is up for a knee replacement shortly.
the last time they visited we took them on a walk in a state park. neither could even begin to do it. I thought we'd have to carry them out. this is a trail people walk their dogs on, with little kids in tow or in back packs. it goes up and downhill but (I'm not being a fitness snob here) it's not anything challenging. I don't think we got 1/4 of a mile.

so a knee replacement..... her wretched diet is partially responsible for no bones left at age 58. even replacement is risky because of the poor condition of the bones the replacement must be connected to. so we're hoping she does OK but she's not aging very well. another reason to watch what we eat!

congrats to everyone on continuing downward. Pam, hope your back gets better. it's hard to lose if you can't sleep or exercise. for me, lost sleep makes it hard to control eating urges, so I'm pretty careful to get the rest I need.
Denise, .2 is still a loss, be happy. caffe latte, that's fantastic you've lost so much in such a short time. my loss is modest so far. my clothes fit better but I need to lose a lot more to go down even 1 size.
Talk to everyone later next week.

A couple of months ago (or maybe longer) I posted that I don't weigh in every day just once a week...well I didn't follow my advise and it was terrible after it was wonderful...I was down 2 pounds one day and back up the next (and I was OP)!!! So I have sworn off the scales and will wait for my weekly weigh in on Tuesdays...

I don't weight myself daily, but I must admit that I used to. I don't think it's entirely a bad thing to do at times because I think it helps one understand that you body will do what it wants to do, when it wants to do it. Though I do my weekly weigh-ins, I prefer to look at how I did over the course of a month and think it's a better indicator of my success or progress overall.

Speaking of scales, I had to get rid of one scale because I could be 1 or 2 lbs lighter or heavier after just a few seconds. It was a newer scale than the one I use now, but it wasn't ever accurate. It was a WW scale I bought at Costco years ago too and measured to the 1/10th of a lb. I step on the scale 2 or 3 times in a row to make sure I get the same reading. This one (Tanita) is more accurate, but it measures in .5 lbs increments.

What types of scales do everyone here use at home?

I finally bought a digital a few weeks ago and it's a HealthOMeter from Wal-mart i think... not expensive, but better than my very old non-digital one. I only weigh on Mondays, at home first thing in the a.m. and also at the fitness center on their very nice Dr. scales that are in the same place all the time. AND, in spite of all my whining, pity party... waaaaaa posts... I lost 1.8 pounds this past week..........................

Whoooohooooo! You are doing things right!

I have a digital scale (not sure of the brand) that weighs to the .5...I am happy with the way it weighs but not always happy with the weight!

Will check back after weigh in tomorrow.

We should all switch to weighing in Stone. That way a small gain or loss isn't going to be noticed.

I use the Wii fitness as a scale... when I actually weigh. Most of the time, it gets my name wrong on purpose, then the mii hangs her head!

About a year ago, my DH won a free "Biggest Loser" digital scale that we'd seen for sale for over $100.00. He entered some contest -- I don't even remember what it was -- and won! It's very accurate.

Speaking of scales and weighing, Saturday morning as I was entering my .2 weight loss in the front of my three month tracker, I realized that the amounts didn't add up. Long story short, I went through all three of my weight records since I joined and found a 1.8 pound total discrepancy (over the course of three different weigh ins) since I joined last September. And it was to my detriment! And I have to say it irritated me a bit. We're so "podunk" here -- not at all automated or electrically hooked up. Arkansas is one of three states where Weight Watchers is a franchise, so we meet in the fellowship hall of a church, stand on a digital scale, and the weigher uses a calculator to compute your weight loss. I'm going to show her the three errors at my next weigh in. So . . . I'm two pounds heavier than I thought. Not a lot in the scheme of things, but still a disappointment.

I'm taking Thursday afternoon, Friday, and Tuesday off, and my DH and I (and our precious dog Lilly) are heading off to the middle of the Ouachita National Forest with our pop-up. We're supposed to start getting the aftermath of Isaac Thursday night, and it's supposed to rain most of Friday. It's so dense where we camp that even if it's raining, we'll be able to set up our camper, awning, and dining canapy without getting soaked. And honestly, this could be what breaks our drought so we're actually hoping for lots of rain. Valerie, our highs are supposed to be in the high 80s with lows in the mid-to-high 60s! Perfect camping weather! I won't be weighing Thursday night because of us trying to beat Isaac to our camping site! I'll check in with everyone next week.

Hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend!

    Denise
