I tried something new today - I shot a bow and arrow! I never in a million years would have thought that I'd be joining an archery club at school in Scotland! We get to try the sports clubs for free for the first two weeks, so I decided to give archery a go. We were able to take 8 shots total today. I was super nervous with my first shot. I had a little plastic bow and arrow as a child, and I just remember every time I released the string, the arrow just fell straight down, so I feared that today the same thing would happen. Nope! I managed to hit the target every time (not where I was aiming though, but that's ok).
I was holding the bow incorrectly for the first 6 shots, so I have a massive bruise on my inner arm from the string hitting it after the release. By the 7th shot I realized what I was doing wrong and I managed to not get hit by the string.
Now, I would never use archery skills in real life to kill an animal, so it's not exactly practical in that respect, but I think it's interesting and something I would enjoy learning and practicing. I did watch the gold and bronze women's archery matches in the Olympics this summer and thought they were so incredible. I guess I was a little inspired.
