Hi everyone. A white Christmas was a bit of an understatement. We got over a foot of snow, which was honestly quite a shock. It snowed non-stop for over 12 hours. We're in the woods in the mountains and nothing comes out here to help. On top of that, we're on a one mile un-paved dead-end county road, so we have very few neighbors. We're fine. My DH is a closet survivalist so believe me, we were more than prepared, and unlike much of Arkansas, we didn't lose power. But we haven't gotten above freezing so nothing's melted, and since we're in such good shape, we haven't ventured out. Just keeping our chickens alive (i.e., warm) is our only challenge. So far, so good. Needless to say, I won't be making my meeting tonight. And I have to say I've induldged much more than I intended to. But I'm back on track. I just finished making CL's Baked Potato Soup which we both love, and I'm going to make Chicken Veggie Noodle Soup tomorrow, also by CL. This is SO soup weather.

It's been a quiet BB for a while. Hope everyone is doing well. Cafe Latte, I can only imagine how next Christmas will be for you without sports for a change!

    Hi all,
Hope you are all relaxed and ready for the new year. I dropped into Costco today and it was full of exercise gear, juicers and women's Speedo bathing suits for $20. Perfect timing since I need a new one for volleyball.

Denise, hopefully all the chickens are fine and the weather has granted you a few moments of breathing time. I would guess that living with a survivalist-closet or not- gives you a measure of security when you live where Mother Nature can play such a big part.

Cafe Latte, sounds like your schedule is keeping you cruising along in 4th gear.

I weighed in this morning and was down another 1.4#. I know it isn't all about the scale, but it is really nice to be starting 2013 with an overall loss. I've been big on soups also- it just seemed right. Clam chowder one day, green chile and pork soup the next. Just something about the warmth and the liquid, yes?

May you all be safe and warm as we head into the new year.

    Patt

Hi everyone.. I haven't gone anywhere but busy with other things. our camping trip didn't materialize but that's OK. weather was iffy enough not spend the money getting there. seemed not worth it to drive, sit in a camper, and drive home. this time of year nights are long in a camper anyway and we have more time off this month. will hold out for a better forecast.

I'm hoping to take advantage of the huge diet/exercise push in January to get me going. I haven't weighed but feel like I've held. haven't eaten anything bad. a little ice cream, a little pumpkin pie, but very small servings and definitely not every day. I use a tiny bowl for the ice cream and it looks like more than it is. I have a new batch of exercise dvd's that should arrive soon too, and new workouts are always an incentive.
I too have been making a lot of soup. somehow, this time of year it's perfect, and always seems like it's worth more than the calories it contains. Denise, I'll take a look at CL's baked potato soup. don't think I've ever tried that one. I do a basic vegie soup with onion, celery carrot and broth. then add in whatever vegies are around...mushrooms, kale, green beans, whatever. I like orzo cooked right in the soup. seems like a lot more pasta than it is. barley is good too.
Patt.. congrats on the loss. this season that's especially outstanding. I didn't want to gain. activity drops off with the short days and rain so I need to eat less to hold even. but losing is hard!

I ran on the treadmill for the first time in a while. used to run almost every day but am trying to diversify a bit and I think it makes for better fitness to do different activities.

Cafe Latte, I'm afraid he won't acknowledge his disease until something bad happens although he is quite serious about taking off 20 lbs, he says by christmas. I can't imagine that, but whatever wiorks. I couldn't lose 20 by christmas even if I ate nothing. men always seem to do better at weight loss.

our "fun project" for the day was getting our truck out of the mud where it was stuck for 2 days. very wet out, very greasy mud, steep hill. we chained it up, spread some gravel and with a fair amount of struggling we got it up the hill. will get a bid on getting the lower part of our road graveled so this doesn't happen again. it was quite the mess.

Hello again everyone. It's good to see a little activity on the BB again. It snowed again yesterday, and we got about two more inches. But it also got above freezing so the snow on our gravel drive and our road melted for the most part. When my DH was reloading our wood supply late yesterday, he cleaned over a foot of snow off my Explorer so I have big plans to go to town today. I have an obscenely long grocery list. Plus I've got a touch of cabin fever. On the 21st while unloading from a day trip to Hot Springs, my big dog Lilly ran in front of me and I fell down very hard on both knees. And I hurt myself. Seriously. I didn't move, dress, etc., until the 26th. I even wondered if I would ever be able to exercise again because of the pain of just walking. But I've turned the corner and my knee pain is 80 to 90 percent gone. I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt my 68 pound weight loss and the fact that I've been exercising regularly enabled me to bounce back so quickly. Another reason I'm so grateful for WW and this BB.

A friend of ours died on Christmas Eve and his memorial service is tomorrow. He was a Lay Leader in our church (Episcopal) and requested his service just be incorporated into our normal Holy Eucharist. We're feeding the family afterwards, and it's all soups, stews, and chili. I'm making one of my favorite CL chillies, Non-Stop No-Chop Chili (super fast, but also delicious), which is another reason I need to get o the grocery store today. This will make the third day in a row I've made soup and/or chili.

Patt, congrats on the weight loss! Really! To lose Christmas week is very impressive! I'm just hoping I maintain this week.

Valerie, I'm sorry your trip didn't materialize, but I know what you mean about camping in this kind of weather. My DH and I are anxious to take our pop-up out again, but the weather has to calm down a bit first.

Hope everyone has a nice, ubeventful New Year's Eve. We'll be at home sitting by the wood stove watching the ball drop, but we do have a nice bottle of champaign!

glad to hear that everybody is pretty much holding their own. I'm am also, but not exercising much at all..... some strange health issues that I'm going to post on another thread that have prevented me from doing much besides walking.

My friend is coming over for NYE for a glass of wine... depending on how I feel, might make a few things, otherwise, wine will be it.

Have a great New Year's and hope for a great year in 2013!

Following up on my last thread, I was told we had too many soups/chili for the memorial service so I made two CL recipes I'd been looking at but had never made, and both from CL special interest magazines. Baked macaroni and cheese and bittersweet brownies, and let me tell you they are both delicious. My DH begged me to make them again just for us, and I plan to. Neither recipe will be a regular for us, but with portion control, I know we can enjoy things like this now and then. And the Mac and cheese is made with low fat cottage cheese and small amounts of sharp cheddar and parm. Let me know if any of you are interested.

Denise I'd like both of those. just an exact name or date will be good enough but I KNOW there are loads of mac & cheese versions on CL. . I love mac & cheese and didn't like the last one I tried so am looking for another idea.

We went snowshoeing this morning but it wasn't very good. the snow had an incredible crust on top, 3 inches thick. sometimes you'd stay on top, othertimes you'd break through and not evenly, so one half of the snowshoe might go in while the other stayed on top. we only went for about an hour and headed back since the road we were using ..conditions would not change. nothing fluffy or light about it!. it was a lot of work for the hour. pretty day out, sunny and in the mountains but sometimes snow conditions are too bad to deal with.

May all of your End of the Year celebrations be delightful and filled with love.

Denise, ouch! that must have been some fall. I firmly believe that you hurt yourself more falling over a child or a pet than if you just trip. So glad you're getting better.

Valerie226, Sounds like you really worked hard with the snowshoeing adventure. I'm worn out just reading about it-of course, I'm not a fan of the white stuff, anyways.

Casey1230, since you're getting in some walking, it's probably keeping you from locking upo altogether. Enjoy the evening with your friend.

We finally got a day of rain and I haven't felt like going to the gym. Today I downloaded a Jane Fonda workout (Prime Time Fit & Strong) video that has two sessions on it. I did the first one and will do the second later this afternoon. Dang, she looks good for her age but what I really enjoyed was her comment that one knee is made of titanium and plastic and one hip is titanium and ceramic. It is inspirational when someone who has similar issues to mine proves that you can keep working on yourself at any age.

Here's a toast to happiness, health and excitement in the New Year.
