Thread: Using canned pumpkin instead of fresh

Question Using canned pumpkin instead of fresh

I have a recipe that calls for 3 cups of cubed raw pumpkin. However, I would like to used canned pumpkin instead. Does anyone know of a rough conversion here? Would one 15-oz. can of pumpkin equal about 3 cups cubed? Thanks for any help.

A 15 ounce can is about two cups of pumpkin pureed. What type of recipe is this - pumpkin bread, soup, etc?

Soup. So, 3 cups of raw pumpkin would yield about how much purée?

3 cups cubed would probably yield about 2 to 1 1/2 cups of puree. I would start with one can in the soup and see how it tastes. Soup is pretty forgiving...

Thanks, but did you actually mean to say 1 to 1 1/2 cups, or 2 to 2 1/2 cups?

    1 1/2 to 2 cups

I made a pie that called for canned pumpkin and used fresh and used the same amout called for in the recipe. It came out great. I think that since your making soup an exact measurment isn't needed
