Planning on making the Red-Chile-Roasted Chicken with Crusty Potatoes tomorrow so when shopping today, 4 grocery stores and 3 hrs. later the only dried chilis I could find were something packaged as New Mexico Red Chile Pods . None of the store personnel had a clue if they were the same as ancho chilis.
Are these the same?? If not can I still use them?? Will the taste be significantly different?? There are a couple more stores in the area I haven't been to yet, should I keep trying to find them???
You would think that living in AZ that one could find these things!!! (or that someone at the stores would know)
