ACK! DH pulled my driver's license out and it expired in August~ I plan to try to get a new one today!! Hope that the DOMV isn't policing this board. Just a warning to others...

    Wink Lol!

I actually re-newed my license for the first time early this year- 2 days before my Birthday!
To be honest, if I wouldn't have taken my 16 yo down to get his license, on 12/21, mine would STILL be expired- probably for another couple of mo. or so .
Do check 'em though. My friends' license was expired for 3 days, she forgot to re-new hers too.. She was rear-ended in her car last month, she had insurance, but she WASN'T a licensed driver at the time of the accident. Basically she's in trouble, and paying through the nose... I feel so bad for her!
(she wasn't drinking, btw, but-- )
Be careful out there, and have a safe & Happy New Years everyone! Please don't drink and drive-- take a cab, or have a designated driver that Doesn't drink! Thanks for listening to me ramble! Sincerely, Zinnia

How timely this post is! My DH and I are going today to renew his license which expired last month. He didn't realize it until we were checking in at the airport on our way home from my mother's in California and the ticket agent said "your license is expired." Gulp! Needless to say we were able to get on the plane (he, luckily, had his SSC with him) but that could have been quite a fiasco. Yes indeed, check your license (mine expires in 2003--don't think I didn't check after that experience).

That happened to me when we lived across the river in North Dakota. In MN they send you a notice when your license is going to expire and I was used to that. DH told me I was going to have to take the tests over again so I was all freaked out, but that wasn't true!

Mine expires in 2003, but I do hope they send out notices here in PA. I have never lived in a place where notices were not sent out. They send them out for the plates here in PA, so I am hoping they do the same for the DL as well.

    Cool

Here in the LA area, where we would very likely drive to the bathroom if the car fit in the hall, I believe it's customary to have your driver's license expiration date tatooed on your inner eyelid so you won't forget. Can't imagine forgetting... It's practically drummed into us at birth.

Since my license has a big UNDER 21 until May 22, 1999 on it, I'm counting the days until its expiration.
I'll be hauling a*% to the DMV in May!

Exclamation They do send out notices in PA

but I moved and never changed my address! Fortunately, I went to the local notary and they gave me a 60 day temporary license. Told DH I still have time to go the the hairdresser before they take my photo id, he wasn't impressed!! Hey, I will have this license for 4 years, it better look good
Anyway, glad that I am not the only one who is date impaired!! Thanks for sharing your stories.

Dad and I went down to get our licenses updated with our 'new' street address, just in case we ever need to travel anywhere. Somehow in light of all that's happened in recent months, the old 'well, that's my old address, but yes, I do pay my taxes' line might not cut it.

Okay, here's my tale of DL woe......

MY hubby and I have lived in PA and TX. In PA, they sent us a notice. In TX, we were not there long enough. Here in IN, we now know, they do not send out notices. My DH and I are NOT good about remembering regular events, much less something that happens every 4 years! Perhaps I will have to look into the CA tatoo thing Gail mentioned .

Anyway....I'm at home one day and my DH calls to say that I must come immediately to pick him up - he's in a town about 40 minutes away. Mind you he does not say why, so I get a quick moment of panic until he starts to explain - after which I am still panicking, but for different reasons.

His car has been impounded. Both his tags/registration AND his driver's license have expired! A trooper pulled him over for having expired tags, and said he could have just given him a warning if BOTH the tags AND license had not been expired.

The tags/registration were my fault - the renewal froms were sitting right next to the computer - I completely forgot to go online and renew. The licenses are technically our own faults - but add us to the list of folks who are clueless that some states don't send notices.

So, after saying a few choice words, I start to get ready to go get him. It's 4:00 - I have to get to the BMV, get a new plate sticker and get to him before the impound lot closes at 5:00. As I get ready, I realize that MY tags and DL are expired!! So I must also get my DL renewed. I gather the kids together at break-neck spped, plead with them to not ask too many questions, and off we go.

Anyway, I get in and out of the BMV in a very remarkable 15 minutes. Our registrations are up to date and my DL is now current. I try to get to the impound lot, 40 minutes away, without being pulled over for speeding and make it there by 5:10/5:15.

Too bad for us - the guys are still there, but they close at 5:00 - no exceptions. How accomodating and understanding.

To make matters worse, my DH is to be traveling that week and I am left with no car and two kids who need to get to school. On top of that we have a big party coming up that weekend and I still had lots to do. I thought I was going to burst a blood vessel!

Fortunately most issues were resolved when a friend of mine gave me a ride to get DH's car out of the impound lot - so I did end up having a car that week.

On second thought - I don't think I need that tatoo - the memory of that whole evening is forever etched in my mind and I doubt I'll ever forget again!

    Too funny, lindrusso!

I thought that I had it good in Colorado when my driver's license was good for 10 years! I will be 39 the next time I have to renew it!

I about killed my DH earlier this year when he let his license plates expire. They expired May 31, and he had a 30 day grace period. He told me that they expired June 30 with a 30 day grace period. Wrong-o! He ended up driving on an expired plate for a day or so. I tried to get our new plates (did both cars at the same time) and found out that both cars had to have an emissions test done. Ugh! Had to find the emissions testing place, then had to call DH and make him leave work early to get his done too. What a fiasco!
