I want to poach some chicken breasts to use the meat later . Do I have to defrost the chicken first, or can I just put it into the boiling water? If it takes about 15-20 min. to poach thawed chicken, how long would it be for frozen?
I have poached frozen chicken breasts without a problem. I have no idea how long it takes, though - -I usually just put them in while doing other things in the kitchen, and check them periodically. I am guessing maybe 30 minutes?
I don't think you need to thaw first either. When I made Jewel's Cheesy Chicken Chowder last month, I just threw the still-frozen chicken breasts right into the broth and then fished them out and shredded them for the recipe. Took about 20 minutes (maybe -- I was talking on the phone at the time) and worked great.
