I am wondering about Rosewater. It's listed in a recipie, and I'm not familier with it. What is it, and where can I buy it? Thanks!

I have seen it used in Indian cooking and also have seen it in some speciality stores. Sorry, that I couldn't give you more import on this but I have never used it.![]()

It's used in Middle Eastern cooking as well, for things like rose pudding. I think it's horrid-ew, I had rose gelato in Italy and I've tasted rose pudding. Ew-tasted like rose perfume, as you might imagine. Anyway, you can find it in Middle Eastern markets, probably Indian markets, and in some upscale grocery stores like a WholeFoods or a Fresh Market or whatever gourmet grocery store is in your area.

Hi!
Just wanted to concur with the above comments and warn you that if you have never tried rose water, you might want to make a small batch of your recipe using it before you make a full recipe. I say that because it has quite a unique taste and many North Americans do not like it at all!Jen, I agree with how you ve described it!
Good luck,
Natasha
It definitely has a unique taste! My DH loves a sweet called Turkish Delight. You can get them plain, or chcolate covered. He really likes the chocolate covered ones. Anyway, some of the plain ones have the rose flavoring, and they are so gross IMO!! I seriously spit it out after tasting, I thought I was eating perfumed soap!

OMG, Turkish Delight is the nastiest, most horrible sweet ever, ever invented. Eww, I'd always wanted to try it since I read The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, but I could never find it around here. So when I lived in Ireland, I bought some and bit into it and almost gagged. It went into the first bin that I found. Ick!

Most definitely from any Middle Eastern deli. To anyone who has had it but really did not like it, all I can say is to try it again. If the taste is too strong, as it has been in some things I tried, it really is an unusual and enahancing flavor if more subtle. I say this from experience as my MIL once made a desert with it, that I simply could not eat. However, when a good friend made the same desert (many other times) it is very good. So nothing against my MIL, but if you use too much it will overpower the dish.
