    Need help with BBQ menu

Hi. I'm new to this board! I''m having a BBQ for my son's birthday in a few weeks and the guest list has grown to 60 people (including 20 kids)! I'd like to make something more exciting than just burgers, dogs, and BBQ chicken. Does anyone have any inexpensive dishes that can be made ahead of time and in large quantities? Thanks.

How about an assortment of pasta salads? Pasta is very inexpensive and you could use all different varieties (fusilli, orzo, spaghetti - whatever you desire). You could also dress them in all different flavours (i.e. meditteranean, italian, asian, pesto). There's endless possibilities really. I'm sure there's countless recipes on this board if you do a search, or go to the CL site and run a search there.

Good luck! Wow, 60 people. You're in for a lot of work. Have fun!

here is a thread that came up a while ago when someone needed to prepare cole slaw for a crowd. her crowd was bigger than yours, but you could scale it down. there is also a link to a website that might be useful.

I like yp's idea of a variety of pasta salads.

you could bake up a couple of big batches of brownies and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Or a couple pans of the chocolate eclair icebox cake.

I did a party for a big group and made pork BBQ (homemade sauce) with buns, coleslaw, fruit salad, corn pudding, and brownies and ice cream with different toppings. It was very good and the bbq and corn pudding were a great hit. The kids liked topping their brownies w/ice cream and the various toppings, and the adults were able to have that two, or just a brownie, or just ice cream, etc.
