    stuck on cooking spray

    hey does anyone know a trick to remove old cooking spray from muffin tins and cookie sheets? i dont have one of those silpat things, and my cookie sheets are non stick, but some things still need to be sprayed -but then you are left with this film that stays forever. any suggestions?

    Lots of elbow grease and a mild abrasive, like Bon Ami. Stinks, I know. I'm in love with my Silpat, but I also just love parchment paper, and it's saving my pans.

    I use the same technique that MKSquared suggested. In addition to Bon Ami, I sometimes use Bar Keepers Friend. I will set the timer for 5 minutes and scrub away. It is amazing how the guck builds up from cooking spray. I also use parchment paper on my cookie sheets when baking bread or cookies. It really save on clean up time.

    Cooking Spray Gunk

    I think I remember seeing cooking spray in teh King Arthur FLour catalog that was advertised as NOT leaving a residue...I meant to order it at the time but never did.

    Mine is a jellyroll pan with 3/4" sides so sometimes I'll fill it with boiling water and vinegar and let it sit, then scrub. I find that Soft Scrub cleanser works the best though. I wet the pan, squirt the cleanser and then rub it around and let it sit. 5 or 6 minutes later I take a plastic scrubbie to it and within 4 or 5 minutes it's clean!

    Something I've learned about that stuff though...if you clean it as soon as the pan cools it's not near as hard to clean! If you let it sit more than a half hour, you're sunk.

    I know there is an old thread on this subject. I use clear grain alcohol (vodka or everclear).

    I have the answer...

    ...And it works everytime.

    The Queen of Clean book recommends place filling the container with hot water and placing a dryer sheet in the pan. Let sit several hours or overnight and the stuff comes right off. This works for any cooked on/stuck on food as well. Works like a dream!

    With the muffin pan, you might want to place the whole thing in a dish pan filled with water and then put in the dryer sheet.

    Good Luck. This has been a real labor saver for me.

    GOO GONE!!!!
    This works everytime, and no elbow grease required. I find it at Home Depot. I think I may have seen it at Linen's and Things, too. It is an orange smelling liquid. Works great!

    thanks ya'll. i tried the dryer sheet, and most came off. then i scrubbed the rest with my bar keepers but i started to remove some of the non stick finish. but it looks much better. next i think i will try goo gone.
