    My Crab Boil review

First, I have to say, last week I made boiled shrimp with Zatarains crab boil seasoning (the loose kind). It was FAB! Well, today, I (by mistake) bought the kind in the bag. None of the flavor ended up on the meat. That said, it was crab and shrimp, so it was ok THIS time....

We had large crab claws and jumbo shrimp. DH has decided the work it takes to crack the crab isnt worth the meat you get out of it! I bought a pound, and we had about 1/4 cup meat!

I also bought some stuffed crab, and 2 crab cakes (YUM!). We had bread pudding with rum sauce for dessert. I got the pudding at The Rajun Cajun, a local crawfish place. No, I didnt make it. DH and I rarely have a day off anymore, so I wasnt going to spend it cooking.

My opinion: shrimp, especially the spicy kind, shoudl be eaten EVERY DAY! I will make sure I buy the loose spices next time. The meat was good, just mot spicy!

    Kim-
    It sounds great!
Question- can you clarify for me - what is "loose" seasoning vs. "the kind in a bag"? Were they both Zatarains? or was the one in the bag a different brand? I'd like to get some of the good stuff, and the local grocery carries Zatarains, I just want to be sure I don't pick up the wrong kind.

I've been in the mood for a seafood boil, myself. I haven't tried the spicy seasoning, though it does sound great!

    Thanks

The pouch is a kind that you don't have to open just drop in, like a boil-in-bag. I like to use the liquid becasue it penetrates the food better and doesn't go up your nose !

    Being a Midwesterner....

....what do I know about seafood boils? But I've always liked Old Bay seasoning, and just following the recipe on the side of the container has worked like a charm. While I love crab, I agree that it usually doesn't seem worth the effort. One of our neighborhood places does an all-you-can-eat crab special on Wednesday and Sunday nights. You can observe some real "professionals" work their way through pounds of crab claws, but somehow, I've just never mastered the technique.

Ok, Im trying to type this around my kitten....

I used Zatarains. By lose, it is like you would buy cinnamon.... in a powder thing. I will try the liquid next time. I agree, from now on, I will do shrimp....less work and lots more for the money! (I got 2 1/4 lbs for 12.00)
