Thumbs up Movie Review - Reign of Fire

We saw Reign of Fire tonight and enjoyed it. It's a well done fantasy/action film with better than usual actors. I normally don't care for Matthew McConaughey but his over the top acting style fit the role. He really chewed up the scenery. Both he and co-star Christian Bale have obviously spent some time in the gym and I appreciated it in their shirtless scenes. I recommend it as good, escapist, but don't-think-too-hard about it summer movie.

Definately not for the under twelve crowd. With a plot centered around fire breathing dragons, there are some really intensely scary scenes.

Maybe it will be worth seeing then!! he he

Thanks for the review. My favorite movie critic said basically the same thing. Both about Matthew McConaughy's acting fitting this role and it being a silly but entertaining movie. Not on my "must see" list but probably rental.

I would recommend seeing this in the theatre. I find that special effects action films are better on the big screen. The dragons are pretty impressive and some of the detail may be lost on video.

Definitely a big screen movie! Chaz and I went yesterday and thoroghly enjoyed it for the action adventure fluff that is was! The special effects were fab and the boys were looking pretty fine I also got my share of yummy accents!

Although Chaz did point out that Pembroke (sp?) is in Wales and not really "on the way" to London from Northumberland.

    How gory is the movie?

I've been dying to see it because 1) I love dragons and 2) I was hoping for a campy Mars Attacks kind of movie. However, I don't handle graphic violence well - one of the previews I saw made it look as if it might be worse than the typical action/adventure movie.

Well, I never claimed it made sense . I went in expecting stupid fun and that's what I got. I fully expect most movies of this type of have plot wholes that you could drive a tank through so I'm rarely dissapointed if the plot doesn't make complete sense. It was a fairly low budget movie so I cut it some slack.

hlao - I didn't think it was tremendously gory and I'm usually easily grossed-out. Ff it's campy, it's purely unintentional. The movie takes itself fairly seriously so there's not a lot of self-conscious wink-wink, nudge-nudge from the filmmakers.
