Question Curried Beef Stew, July, any reviews???

So I did a search and came up empty. I'll be preparing this tonight but I wanted a heads up beforehand. Thanks in advance.

Very old topic, but I didn't see a review, and thought I should add mine. I had a bunch of CSA sweet potatoes, and no clear plan. I did a search in Mastercook, and this recipe popped up. It sounded good, and I decided to try it.

Changes -- I didn't have and couldn't find the special thai hot sauce, so I used thai red curry paste. I couldn't find serrano peppers, but I bought two jalapeno peppers as a substitute. However, they've gone missing, so I skipped them. I didn't have any low sodium beef stock, so I used beef Better than Bouillion, and used low sodium soy sauce to compensate. Finally, I used Penzey's Singapore blend instead of regular curry, because it seemed to fit the recipe description better.

That said, this was lovely comfort food with a twist. It was sweet thanks to the sweet potatoes, but not cloyingly so. It was salty, but not too much. Browning the beef lent a lovely depth to the flavor, but the new additions of soy and ginger made it taste different from the normal beef stew.

I served this with brown rice and steamed broccoli. There was a great deal of sauce, which we spooned over the broccoli. The brown rice worked very well, adding a nutty aspect to the overall flavor. It was filling, and different while still being very accessible.

I'd give it a 7 out of 10, not company worthy, but nice for a family meal with people who are willing to accept a slightly unexpected flavor.
