Prayer and Praise for week 8/19

Hope its OK that I start this this week...I have a prayer request. We got a phone call from a close friend this weekend, her husband was in emergency surgery for a tumor on his colon which did turn out to be advanced cancer. They'll start chemo immediately, so far the news is not good. They are mid forties, three kids, awesome Godly family...please pray for his healing and peace/comfort for all of them.

    Thanks.

They're on my list, for his healing, comfort for all of them, strength and moments of joy. Also that God will raise up friends who will stick by them and give them wisdom.

On a lesser note, praise that the heat wave in CT is just about broken.

Praise: For the rain we had in SE Michigan this morning. We've had an extremely dry summer.

I am the Godmother to a little girl from Mexico. I met the family when they were here for the father's temporary work assignment a few years ago. Now they are here again for 3 - 6 months. In Mexican culture, the mother and Godmother call each other Comadre. Her husband is my Copadre.

Praise: My Comadre had asked me to find her a conversation partner. I had trouble finding one, but finally was able to find one last week. Barb is a really energetic and strong Christian woman from my church. She and my Comadre really hit it off last week when the three of us met for coffee. They have plans to meet again later this week.

Request: My Copadre has awful back pain. My Comadre is really worried because he has had this before and is afraid that it could be cancer since it is in his family history. Pray that first of all, we can find him a doctor here that his Mexican insurance will pay for. And then, for healing. He and his wife and only 25 with two toddlers.

My BF's ex-wife just filed a motion for change of custody or dramitically increased visitation. He is confidant he will win IF he is able to adequately prepare his responses to her motions. (He has full physical custody.)

Mike, my co-worker, was doing better and was able to return home last week. They still don't know what caused the infection.

All of your prayers and praises are on my list.

Personal praise: After a serious bout of relationship troubles with my BF, things are looking up and I think everything is going to be okay.

Please continue to keep my friend Cathy in your prayers. Specifically pray for the Lord to give her the "courage" (that's not exactly the right word) and the right words to get on the phone and start networking. She's having trouble getting on the phone and calling people.

Meg, thanks for the update on you and BF, that is great news.

FYI everyone, DH and I went to a praise and worship concert Friday night featuring Paul Belouche, Chris Tomlin and Daryl Evans. It was fabulous! We loved Chris Tomlin and are going to buy some of his cd's.

I promise to have a verse tomorrow!

Praise for special people God puts in our lives....

I work in a care facility and work with dememtia residents. One of my residents is a man who taught seminary for many years, is an author of a couple of books and lived his life as an expamle of a very Godly loving husband and father. I met he and his wife when he was addmitted into my facility almost three years ago now and yesterday was their 51st anniversary. This couple has been such an inspiration to me. I just want to thank God for bringing them into my life and allowing me to be a person to help take care of him and make a differece in their lives. These are the people who make my job the wonderful job it is. So many people ask me how I do my job day in and day out and all I can say is that it is a blessing to me!

A couple of years ago his wife gave me a copy of one of his books that he had signed before Parkinsons disease took over his mind and body completely. Yesterday I was able to get a card and help him sign it for her in his own hand writing. (something he hasn't done in several years) I layed it on his dresser in his room so when she came in for one of her twice daily visits she found it. So now we both have a treasure.

My help comes from the Lord,

    Verse for the Week

    James 1:2-5

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

Kim, I know you had said you would look for a verse for tomorrow, but I have been thinking of this one a lot lately, so I wanted to share it.

Here is my current favorite verse, which I have tucked in my desk drawer at work where I read it every day: "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a FUTURE." Jeremiah 29: 11.

I claim that verse all the time sal! And I love "Hold unswervingly to the hope you profess for He who promised is faithful" from Hebrews 10:24 ( I think...I'm at work, no Bible handy!) I think they go hand in hand...

Hey everyone!!! What a blessing to read everyone's praises....and what an honor to lift up prayers to Him for others.

For those that remember the twins that were born at 28 weeks....
Friday was a good day..the girl was breathing on her own and finally taking breast milk (2 tsps but still!)...the boy was still struggling to breathe but since he is a premie white boy it wasn't anything unexpected. (white boys do the worst of all premies)
But then on Saturday the girl needed emergency surgery...they needed to airlift her, but couldn't due to the weather, so she had to go 3 hours in an ambulance...the surgery went well as far as I know, but haven't heard anything since right after the surgery.
Please continue to pray for their strength and continued development. and for the precious parents who now have 2 critical babies hundreds of miles apart.

I loved reading everyone's verses....for me right now (as it seems the world gives me things to worry about even as i fight not to worry since it adds nothing to my life....) mine is the very simple "be still and know that I am God" -Psalm 46:10

There is also a quote by ML Haskins that helps me when too much seems out of control. "I said to the man who stood a the gate of the year:'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.' And he replied: 'Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way.'"

    God Bless,
    Kim

Thanks all for sharing your verses. I had one last night, but did not memorize it. I'll try to share it later... I wish I was a better memorizer.

Please pray for one of my prayer pals, Janet, who is taking her daughter back to school tomorrow. They will be driving from Texas to Ohio. Please keep them in your prayers.

Thank you for sharing all the verses. They are all wonderful and I read them each out loud. God's word makes such a difference in a day, doesn't it? Let's share verses more often!

    Dixie,
sorry to hear about your friend of the family.
Jennifer, I love that verse in James.

Hey, does anybody ever listen to David Jeremiah? He is my favorite radio guy . He is doing a study on Solomon right now and I am just learning so much.

I am also wondering if maybe we should just do this thread once a month? I only say that because I sometimes forget to look at all new posts; I don't know about the rest of you . And, maybe put it on the Healthy Living board, which doesn't move so fast and everything ends up buried in just a day or two. Besides, spiritual healthiness counts, too ! What do you guys think? Either way is fine with me though.
I have no real request or specific praise this week so I'll concentrate on the ones listed here. Oh yeah, I do have kind of a small one. My oldest son (stepson) got here Saturday and is staying a week. I am trying to have a good attitude and I am actually happy to have him here and the visit is going well so far. I just need patience and understanding. I need to be reminded of how forgiving and merciful the Lord is to me! And then I need to pass it on.

    My verse

You know how you go for years reading a verse and one day it 'pops'?

    Well, this one did:

Ps. 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.

Why did it 'pop'? Well, I'd never paid attention to the first part: He is with us in whatever trial, danger or heartbreak there is. Also, having read up on shepherds on some completely unrelated situation, I realized that while the rod and staff were, from time to time, used to keep the sheep in line, they were carried to fight off wolves! Wow!

I think once a month is a good idea too....mostly for selfish reasons I have a hard time remembering to look for the new week each week.

I love David Jeremiah too!!! I put moody radio on at work (via internet) and learn all day long!!!! James McDonald, Tony Evans, David Jeremiah, Erwin Lutzer......constant mana all day long!

    Have a blessed day!
