My dad's building was evacuated this morning ...

My dad just emailed me from the library because he is currently locked out of his workplace. He works at the Marinette County courthouse, and they had a bomb threat this morning. Right now, they have bomb-sniffing dogs in there. Dad said the local newspaper received a crudely written fax this morning saying the courthouse was going to explode at 9. Probably a hoax, but how stupid is that? Dad forgot his car keys in the office, so he's stuck outside for two hours. I said that at least it's a nice day for a walk.

By the way, Marinette is really small. I think the populations is around 32,000 in the city. Not exactly a center for news.

I just can't believe someone would try this on a day such as this.

The sad thing is, this is EXACTLY the kind of day that someone would try something like this, hoax or otherwise.

Glad to hear your dad is safe. Here's to hoping it's a hoax.

Whoever sent the threat should be prosecuted for sure!! What an horrible person to do this, on this day of all days. Any day would be horrible but this one just makes it worse. Glad your dad is safe!

I'm glad your dad is okay. Sadly, it doesn't surprise me that some idiot did this. Let's hope this is an isolated incident.

This type of stuff really brings out the crazies! The school district I work for will have bomb threats today. There was one at a high school yesterday and another at the same high school this morning. Our computer guys can't even get their jobs done for having to evacuate the building.

There's one in Columbus, Ohio. My office is across the street from the State Office Tower and we can see that they've been evacuated and the street in front has been closed. I've heard that it was a bomb threat and I also heard that a dog found a suspicious package.

When I lived in OKC, the Wal-Mart where I worked was evacuated at least weekly after the OKC bombing. I think the people who call in these threats need to be severely punished. That is such a cruel thing to do, especially today.

Jennifer--->who works for a company w/ "Federal" in the name, but hasn't been evacuated today, thankfully. Our building is 'unmarked' for this reason.

Did anything become of these? This makes me so sad. I never turned on the tv yesterday so I'm not sure if anything like this was happening in Cleveland. I work next to the Federal Court House and the STate Bldg and as far as I know nothing happened there.

No bomb. Dad emailed a few hours later, and everyone was back in the building. Turned out to just be a hassle and nothing else.

It's just so odd for this to happen in our area. I mean, literally nothing newsworthy happens up there.

Update on the Columbus situtation: A window-blind installer was asked what he was doing and answered, "I'm installing a bomb." They evacuated the Rhodes Tower, a state office building directly across from the State Capitol. A dog found traces of materials that could be used to make a bomb.

The idiot is in court today, charged with inducing panic (sound right?) and it's a 3rd or 4th degree misdemeanor.

What an idiot! Granted, it was a stupid question to ask a man with his hands full of blinds, but what a moronic response. Then of course, everyone has to over-react, so because this guy has a smart mouth, they evacuate the building, close off Broad Street and add to everyone's stress levels. Makes you wonder what goes through people's mind (or what passes for a mind) when they do stuff like that. Like, what on earth made him think that a joke about a bomb would be funny?
