    My DD has moved out!

Just thought I'd give a quick update on my daughter Allie's departure (! whole mile away!!). I have been to her place a couple of times and guess what-so far it's clean! (Helps that there isn't much in it!).She is having alot of fun-though she did phone the other day to say she was very bored. At that point, they had no CD player or TV and she has one chair to sit on!(sounds like bliss to me!) I suggested she cook-what a novel idea! And she did! She phoned me that evening to say she made a stirfry and that it was very good! I am proud and happy for her. She said she is always nagging her BF to clean up after himself. That provided her dad and I with a good laugh.
I do miss her though-she was never home but at least her stuff was here!

Oh one more cute story-she left her much loved and very worn stuffed puppy named Woofy here for me to cuddle when I miss her-okay now I am going to cry...
You think you're not ever going to be able to eat another thing, but alas, you will find yourself feeling strangely peckish around teatime. The more you eat, the more you want. That's the way it goes."

I feel for you-even though it's only a mile (one of mine isn't much further) there is a big difference around the house. I have had kids in my house (lots of them) for over 30 years, and in less then 3 years we are down to only 1 (the last one moved out around last Christmas). What a shock to the system. To go from cooking and cleaning for as many 6 and some times more to only the 3 of us is sure hard to get used to. I have only one more to go, but that is years on down the line.

Life is often bitter-sweet. We have children and we spend years protecting and nuturing them to one day send them out into the world, without us. It won't be long and we will be going through the same thing with our daughter. If your daughter has done this with confidence then you have done your job. It is time to enjoy your relationship with her on a different, more adult level.

It is hard to let your children open their wings and fly away!! I could never imagine living away from my mom I always insisted that my umbilical cord didnt reach that far!! Now we have a different relationship, as adults but I still sometimes need to just be a daughter and so thats when I go for sleepovers!! We never get to old to go home, just remember to always leave the door open!!

I just read this thread and it made me cry. I am grown and live 500 miles away from my mom. I never give much thought to how difficult it must be for her & my dad to have me living so far away. My mom & I were never extremely close. She is much closer with my older & only sister who lives about 10 miles away, so living far away from them isn't as hard for me. But I can't imagine what it must be like for her. She is always so supportive of me, and tells me to go & to do wherever my heart tells me. Maybe she's just happy I didn't move to France like I once planned on after graduating from college. 500 miles is better than 5,000, I guess.

It's funny. The older I get, the more respect and admiration I have for my mom.

New beginnings must be in the air . . . Our last one at home graduated in May and has just taken a job in Cincinnati. Since we are moving to Atlanta, this weekend will be spend dividing up some of the furniture for her new apartment and DH will go down with her next weekend. Meanwhile, the eldest and her husband will be leaving for England after the first of the year for probably two years, maybe more. And the DD in the middle is in D.C. I guess because we left home right after college and have lived so many places it doesn't strike me as odd. I'm close to my mom (in St. Louis) and all three girls are very, very close to grandma, despite the difference. I have no doubt, when the time comes, we'll be very much a part of the lives of our grandchildren even if they live on the other side of the planet.
