Red face Help - spider bite!!

    Hi all -
Ok I just got bitten by a tiny spider - no brown recluse or black widow, but whatever it was has made my hand "prickly" feeling & given it red splotches." Normally I'd ignore it, but I'm 10 weeks pregnant. Is there a cause for concern or should I take extra precautions of some kind?
    Any thoughts appreciated!

I'd rub some antibiotic cream on it, then use ice to stop the "pricklies", but I'm at a loss as to if it will be a problem for your "newly-pregnant" state. But I'm certain that someone out there will answer that question...
    Hope it's okay!

Can't you just eat what I put in front of you? Do you have to know what it is?

    First, congratulations on your pregnancy!

I'd call your doctor and ask what they think. If you're seeing a skin reaction and feeling tingly, it is probably worth at least checking with your doctor, just to put your mind at ease.

Well, my doctor is already gone for the day - so I wasn't sure if I should consider this an emergency for the on call doc. That's kind-of why I'm asking - to know if I should bother them. I may stop & get some benadryl cream on the way home.

Sometimes you can call a non-urgent care clinic and talk to a nurse. You might think about that.

It might be worth calling your dr's answering service and have them call you back.

I would call the Dr...my BIL had a spider bite, and a few days later got blood poisoning from it...ended up in the hospital for a few days on IV antibiotics...

I'm sure you are fine, but I would call the doctor. Spider bites are not something to mess around with, and neither is pregnancy. If nothing else, you will rest better with the peace of mind that comes from the doctor telling you it is nothing to worry about.

    Leanne,
Just wonderin' how you're doing, and if you've called the on-call doc?

Thanks for asking. I called a friend that's an OB. He said no biggie & take a benadryl. I didn't want to take anything, even though he said it was OK, so I got some benadryl cream. The rash part went away almost immediately. The prickliness stayed for about 45 minutes to an hour. Now I just have a tiny red dot where the thing chomped on me.
I did feel better getting medical advice.
