Can not get rid of Carbs

    Hi everyone,

My bf and I have been talking about this for days. Everyone keeps telling us to cut out carbs in order to loose weight ( my bf is going on a diet). I told that this is not true... it can't be. What happen to the days of watching what you eat, eating leaner meats, eating more seafood, and eating more veggies? I lost a lot of weight by almost becoming a Vegetarian, but I still ate pasta and bread. Of course in moderation. Are these no carb diets really healthy? I do not see how they can be with all the meat that people have to eat. What happens when these people start to eat bread again?

    Just wondering,

    Lauren

You do not HAVE to cut carbs to lose weight. I lost 20 pounds and my DH lost almost 80 on Weight Watchers - a very simple plan, really, of fewer calories, less fat, more fiber, more exercise, and more veggies. I found I tended to lose more when I reduced my intake of starchy white carbs (1/2 cup of rice instead of a cup as a serving, for example) and switched to "lite" breads and english muffins that were higher in fiber. Starchy carbs are what I think of as "calorie dense" - they fit a lot of calories into their mass.

I am a believer in a balanced diet. Most people I know who cut carbs to lose gained it all back and more. Good luck to your BF and tell him to check out Weight Watchers.

I too do not subscribe to the philosophy of eliminating carbs - unless you're prepared to do it for the rest of your life - which is the mantra for any true weight loss success.

Personally, I can never give up bread, rice, pasta. Yes, I can cut down at times, and should more often. But if you cut them out all together for 12 weeks, then start eating them again, the weight will come back eventually.

I have also done Weight Watchers, and am a lifetime member. It's worked for me for a decade now - yes, my weight fluctuates year on year, but I know exactly how to get it back to where I want it - and that's a balanced diet, with carbs in moderation.
