thanks for help finding a bike trainer!

i bought a great trainer from www.performancebikes.com, and now DBF and I are back into cycling. it has helped my knee (i had surgery in october) a great deal and i'm starting to lose the weight i gained post-layoffs. a few people on this bb helped me figure out what to do, and i wanted to express my graditude.

i did some searches and found some very cook cycling groups around nyc, the biking map that lists all the bike paths, and a race to train for in September.

    whoo hoo!

i'm just now getting into biking, too! it's so fun and different. what an awesome way to challenge yourself, see new terrain and burn incredible amounts of calories. what type/distance race have you signed up for?? i haven't gotten that adventurous yet. i'm thinking of checking out a few local biking clubs, though. i'm still nervous about using the clipless bike pedals! eek!

    welcome aboard!

I am going to the Transportation Authority's
    NYC Century Bike Tour
    ...there's info here:
    http://www.transalt.org/calendar/century/index.html

What's cool about it is you can do 15 miles or 75 miles, it's up to you.

about the pedals: I am using a regular pair with cage straps on them. I find them more practical for riding in traffic. I think I'll be getting cleets soon!

The bike clubs in my area seem really cool...they have touring trips over the weekends that seem like a cheap and healthy way to take a little vacation! Most of the clubs have shorter length rides and Century rides that they train for.

The funniest link I found was to an all-girl bike club called The Cherries
