Thumbs up Results of the latest swap

Am I the first to post? I didn't see another thread on it. My apologies if I missed it.

I received a great box from RobinC from Oregon on Sat. We decided to do cookbooks and I have to say that I think I'm getting the better end of the deal on this one! And being the foodie she is she couldn't stop at just a book. (I won't beable to either I'm sure. )

My box contained the cookbook Wildwood - Cooking from the Source in the Pacific Northwest It looks like a great book. Lots of beautiful pics and recipes. Can't wait to settle in with it one night to look it over in more depth!

Marionberry syrup. This looks yummy, can't wait to try it.

Chocolate with great wrappers with scenes of Oregon on them.

2 tins of hazelnuts...YUMMY! We already opened one. These are so fresh and crunchy, I'm spoiled now!

    A cool magnet from Oregon a great letter...boy I hope I didn't forget anything.

Thanks Robin I love it. And promise to get your box in the mail soon!

Thanks Lara for organizing this swap.

So glad to hear you liked your gift.

I couldn't possibly send just a book. If you are going to do some NW cooking, you have to have hazelnuts. If you learn anything about food in the NW, then you have to try marionberries.

I love the Pacific NW and enjoy sharing my passion.

    Too fun!

I received my swap package yesterday from Terri (TLee4) and it is absolutely wonderful! Terri noted that we do not have a Trader Joe's in South Carolina and sent a box of goodies:

Tacconi Pasta & Vodka Marinara - looks wonderful and DH was quick to say he can't wait to try.

Toasted Coconut Cashews - these look sinful

Tangerine Brown Sugar Scrub - I can't wait to try this!

Golden Berry Blend - Terri mentioned that these would be good in muffins but they look like they would be great from the package.

And a wonderful note & photos. Thanks Terri, you made my day!

Thanks also to Lara for organizing.

Hi Kim, I have purchased 3/4 of the things that I am getting for you. The toughest part is wrapping it up and getting it out, which I hope to do soon. No, you're not late.
Life is all about a$$; you're either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, behaving like one, or you live with one.

ok...I'm almost finished, but now I'm scared I thought the limit was around $15 - $20? It sounds like everyone is going way beyond that ...I'm worried that my swap buddy is going to be disappointed

JeAnne, I wouldn't worry. Good things come in small packages.

I figure that I want to spend about $20 US on what goes in the box, and then mailing costs. But I usually stick in something that I've made myself (so that doesn't count ).

But really, I just get excited about the idea of getting a present when it's not my birthday I'm also jazzed about creating a box that I'd like to get...I seem to be heavy on the chocolate this time...I hope Debie doesn't mind

NJ is famous for produce. How do I wrap that up?

Hey, you're making the rest of us look bad. Stop mailing those packages! I'm doing a cook book swap, too. I have my book, now I just need some "goodies". I have one thing. I'm working on the rest. Maybe some sand from the Jersey Shore?

I don't think you have anything to worry about. You are a thoughtful person and I am sure that whatever you send to your swap buddy will be great.

I got my package from 1MegMeg on my front step today, along with my new laptop! Meg - I opened yours first! I got a beautiful Junior League of Boca Raton cookbook! I can just see myself sitting on my deck, overlooking the lake (Huron, hardly saltwater, but it's the same feeling) and enjoying a wonderful meal from it - breakfast, a sunset supper, or a buffet of little somethings.

    Thanks Meg!

Oh, yeah, did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick. Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

    Aw shucks Gail,
I'm so glad you liked the package(I did not even know the salsa was low sodium...it's the only kind they make...it's not a complete grocery store so they only make one of most things!) I had a great time making up the box! This was such a neat thing to do! I hope you enjoy the cookbook too!

I was excited to come home and find my package today from Kim (Keg64). It is a lovely cookbook called "Magnolias: Southern Cuisine". It comes from a restaurant (that I'd love to dine in!) in Charleston, SC.

    Thanks, Kim!

OMG! I just looked at this book more closely!

I love it and can't wait to make something. Should we start another thread with recipes we found in our new cookbooks? I obviously would love to do that!

I know, I had to stop buying those for myself! On my last TJ's trip, I only bought them for Kim, and for my mom who had never tried them...

That, I haven't tried, but I had heard good things. Kim will have to let me know how it is. Maybe that will be my "treat" next time I go. Less dangerous than the cashews...!

I just opened my wonderful swap package from Tyra (tbb113). She's in the Oakland/SF area of California. Tyra packed some wonderful goodies in the package including:

    * A bottle of wine from Gilroy, CA, the garlic capitol of the world". It's by Chateau de Garlic and has a description on the label that says "grape wine flavored with fresh garlic." This is definitely going to be an interesting bottle of wine!!!
    * A cookbook called Savoring San Francisco, Recipes from the City's Neighborhood Restaurants. This looks so wonderful!!! (Yeah! I have a new "novel" to read!)
    * A jar of Pacific Olallieberry Jam. It's supposed to taste like blackberries! I love the name of these berries!!
    * A huge hunk of dark Ghirardelli chocolate! Can we all say 'happy girl'?

Thanks so much to Tyra for an awesome swap package. And big thanks to Lara for organizing this swap!

    Melanie:

Glad you like everything. By the way the winery is called Rappazini, the wine itself is Chateau de Garlic. They also make "normal" wine including a wonderful white with apricots and an almond sparkling wine.

Whoo hooo! I got the loveliest package in the mail from HUNGRY! this week! She included a cookbook from Virginia with a number of yummy sounding things - I especially can't wait to try the peach ice cream! Also, some pepper jelly, Senate bean soup, blackening seasoning from a local restaurant, and a really great smelling soap.

What a nice introduction to Virginia and the North Atlantic! Thanks again to my great swap partner and to Lara!

I got my swap package from Leigh (lhall) and what a great thing this was. She sent me brochures from the historic places in and around Marietta, GA (is she trying to get me down there?).... so I feel like when I next vacation down that way, I'll definitely have some places to see!

Next was a jar of peach preserves, which I can't wait to try! DH is allergic to peaches and nectarines, so these are all for me!

And finally a book, Georgia's Historic Restaurants and their recipes.... I am so inspired, but hardly know what to make first. I am thinking about an all southern menu sometime soon! I just have to share this recipe, though, because this most likely will be the first one I'll try:

    Anthony's Plantation Restaurant's Soused Salmon

Anthony's in located in Atlanta in an old 1797 plantation house. This restaurant has been named one of the top ten continental restaurants in the U.S. every year since 1993 by the Amer. Academy of Restaurant Sciences...

    rock salt
3 lb. fresh salmon fillet, skin on
    1 fennel bulb, chopped fine
    1 leek, chopped fine
    12 white peppercorns, crushed
    2 bay leaves, crushed
5 branches fresh thyme, chopped coarse
    juice of 10 fresh limes
    1/2 c. red wine vinegar

Lay rock salt in a pan large enough to hold salmon; use enough salt to cover bottom of pan completely. Lay salmon skin side down on the salt. Mix remaining ingredients together and let stand 15 minutes. Drain the liquid and set it aside. Carefully place leek mixture on salmon. Pour 1/5 of rserved liquid over leek mixture, cover, and place in the refrigerator. Let stand 4 hours, then add more liquid, repeating the procedure until allthe liquid has been used. Cover pan tightly and do not disturb for 24 to 36 hours. Remove salmon, discard everything else, slice paper-thin, and serve. Serves 6 or more.
Springtime is my time of year!
