Favorite Le Creuset color?

Here we go...a frivolous question....

do you have a favorite Le Creuset color?
if yes, what is it?

I thought I had a favorite, but now am not sure...they are all so pretty

DH loves the indigo blue we picked up in California and can't locate anywhere else.

I am torn ....but find myself strangly attracted to the original Flame (orangy) color.

What a timely question! We got our very first piece of Le Creuset today - a steamer kinda thing (3 pieces - lid, colander, pan with two handles). It was TWO DOLLARS at a yard sale, and it's beige.

I do like the cobalt, but at yard sales you can't be picky.

Wallycat - I thought I was the only one who had a LeCreuset color fetish!! Now I can come out of the closet and admit that I too could spend quite a bit of time poring over and thinking about all those great colors. My all time favorite is the red. I was recently at the outlets in Grove City and there is a LeCreuset store there. It was like nirvana!! Everything was displayed nicely and the best part was in the back of the store where all the "seconds" were. It wasn't just hit or miss as it seemed like they had a pretty goood representation of many of the pieces. I picked up a large soup sort of pan. I think they called it a boubillaise (is that spelled right??) pan. I also got the pumpkin casserole for my son-in-law who loves everything fall. My daughter loved the red tea pot so of course we had to get that too, although I told her I would be holding that for Christmas. So, thanks to the outlet, I think I will be slowly building my red collection. If you've never been to an outlet store, I think you would really like it!!

Um. Okay, first, obligatory answer. I love the Flame ones. I picked up some orange containers at a flea market in Tours (France), and the flame Le Creuset looks just like it.

Now for my question: a LE CREUSET outlet? In Grove City? Not 20 minutes from me? Where have I been? I must know more.

Edited: It's Grove City, PA, not Grove City OH. Sigh. I had a feeling that I knew most of the outlet stores near me.

Wallycat, you helped convince me that the oval Dutch oven would be as good a choice as the round, so I have step forward and say...I love that (classic?) blue color!! There's a hardware/housewares store near me, and Le Creuset is always discounted there, but everything is sold in blue only. OK by me!
I have a $200 gift certificate for Sur la Table, and I considered buying my Dutch oven there...my color choice was JADE!

I love the flame and the red. But what Ireally want to own are all of the specialty pieces. Especially the pumpkin that pugmu mentioned.

Why buy it? Well, for the same reason that you would buy any other pan - because you can:

• Fry in it
• grill on it
• braise in it
• bake in it
• saute in it
• mix in it
• serve in it

It also gives you a great upper body workout. Basically, it's enameled cast iron, with wonderful heat conduction and retention properties. It also cleans up well and, if properly seasoned, if pretty much nonstick (results vary from cook to cook).

FLAME!!! Right on. I love it, my first Le Creuset (almost 30 years ago I am ashamed to admit) was (OK still is) flame.

Seems to me they tried to get rid of that color for a time, but had to bring it back since everyone wanted it.

If I could afford Le Creuset, and had space for it (a nice set of open shelves, maybe, in a corner of my charmingly comfortable, workable renovated kitchen) I'd get... a piece in EVERY ONE of the colours! 'Cos they just look so pretty, all together. Bright! Cheerful! Warming!

I too would like a variety of colors. I only have the Flame red wok right now. I also have the light yellow kitchenaid FP and a cobalt KA blender. Next indulgence is the pink KA standmixer. Or the Lavender one on Amazon.com.

Question: Do any of you actually own the really large pieces? I'm in the market for a larger pot (I don't know sizes) for stews and such but can't imagine having such a large pot in cast iron. Comments?

I asked for (and subsequently received and returned) a Le Creuset stockpot. I don't remember the size, but it was way way way too heavy.

I have a medium sized LC that I think they call a "French oven", probably about 5-6 qt, maybe 8? I love that one. That is as large as I would want to go.

Ended up with an enameled stockpot with a glass lid that I believe is cast aluminum underneath. Unfortunately it did not come in flame!! So I settled for black. Works great though, and I can lift it!!

I just got my first one a month ago, and I love it already!! I got the 7qt. dutch oven in red(or is it flame??) Oh well, nonetheless, it is a great pot. (Why did I wait so long??) Oh yah, I got mine new on e-bay(DH got it actually!).

I have the 7.5Q Dutch Oven and love it. I use it quite a bit - especially for soups/ stews and roasts etc. Mine is Flame (the red where it gets gradually darker towards the bottom)

We received a 7-pc set of Le Creuset as a wedding present. We had only requested one piece, the French oven, but a couple of friends decided to go that extra mile and add a few more pieces. We asked for the oven in electric blue, so all the pieces are in that colour. We love it!! I do like the red and yellow, too. Objectively, I don't mind the flame colour, and the fact that it's the original colour makes me like it more, but it tends to remind me of when I was very young. One of my parents' friends had a Le Creuset stockpot in that colour, and she always cooked the weirdest stuff, so when I see that colour, I sometimes find myself vaguely remembering the 70s and her odd meals and all! So I don't think I'd buy that colour myself.

Okay, so I'm a nut. But you knew that.

I know that they make a blue...their "regular" blue, but this other blue I got is very deep...almost blueberry deep-blue colored.

I do notice that the colors look a bit different from size of piece to piece. Like the Red roaster pan looks true blue-red while the soup pot looks less deep.
The flame 3-quart looks very deep orangy, but the Au gratin pan looks almost a washed out orangy.

I know that William-Sonoma has their own blue, which is a bit darker than the "traditional le creuset blue" but again, the blue I picked up in California is deep blueberry blue...and I haven't found it anywhere else

Hey MKSquared, sorry I got you all excited about Grove City. I should have said Pennsylvania!!! I live outside Cleveland and from here, we can get to Grove City Pennsylvania faster than we can get to the outlets south of Columbus. It might be worth your while to take a road trip to Grove City, Pennsylvania though if you really want to see the LeCreuset store. Actually, the whole outlet at Grove City, Pennsylvania is really quite nice.
Peggy - I just got a new Chefs catalog. They have the pumpkin piece with two small serving pieces for $99.99. I paid slightly less than that at the outlet but didn't get the two little servers with mine. The outlet had the peppers, the pumpkin, and the heart. I don't remember seeing the tomato which I think is kind of cool too.

I think my favorite color is flame, although I'm trying to buy them in all different colors -- like CompassRose said, they look so bright and cheerful together.

I have two flame pieces -- the wok and a small French oven -- because they were great buys at the Le Creuset outlet in Wrentham, Mass. I also have the au gratin dish in red; a larger French oven in blue (not cobalt, a lighter blue, not sure what it's called); and an omelet pan in jade.

They conduct heat so beautifully and evenly. I could never make a decent omelet until I got my excellent Le Creuset omelet pan.

What I'm craving is a piece in the color I think is called "citrus." (Light bright yellow).

About the two small serving pieces that come with the LeCreuset pumpkin-they are described as being two 6 ounce matching stoneware soup bowls with lids. They look to be the same color as the pumpkin itself. Right now, there is free shipping if you order $99 or more so this qualifies. This catalog is online. It's chefscatalog.com. I've ordered before from them and the transaction went very well. Always glad to get someone else addicted to my favorite things!!! Forgot - the soup bowls are shaped sort of like little bean pots. I think the flame and cobalt blue would be gorgeous together. DH and I almost bought a mosaic tile table with those as the prominent colors, and would've focused the kitchen decor around it. Alas, we just didn't want to spend the exorbitant amount of money it would've required. I'm still regretting passing it up, though--months and months later.
