How hot does a broiler get?

I'm wanting to use a Le Creuset pan under the broiler but have read that they shouldn't go above 450...

anyone know how hot a broiler gets?? Low setting? high setting?

    Thanks

I think this would probably depend on the broiler: the brand, whether it's electric or gas, etc. My own gas stove has an oven temperature dial marked up to 500F, followed by "broil," which would seem to indicate that for the best broiling flame in the bottom unit, the interior temperature of the whole oven (upper and lower) would equal or exceed 500F.

    Or maybe not? I dunno.

    Cheers,

My Dacor broiler settings go up to 550 and then “Hi” is above that—so supposedly about 560, 570 maybe? OTOH, I know my previous broiler was nowhere near as hot. The only suggestion I might have is (as I’m sure you’ve considered) turn the broiler on and stick your oven thermometer up there—actually, come to think of it, I don’t actually know, do oven thermometers even go up that high?
