    Smile help with music suggestions

Well, I've been searching through some older threads because I know there are always great suggestions on this BB. I couldn't find a thread that had exactly what I'm looking for, though.
    Here's the situation:
My 10th-grade son is playing on an American Legion baseball team (which is very intense with a lot of games which is why I haven't been on the boards much lately). We just finished a tournament today at another high school's field and their music was just great!! They played very cool stuff and had great diversity; Beach Boys, Eagles, Green Day, Beatles, Guns & Roses. I'm sorry to say the music they play at our field needs help! Instead of whining about it, I've decided we're going to put together some stuff and I will help out being the DJ at some of our games. As it is we have one CD that somebody made that has about 6 different songs and they play those same ones over and over . They usually start playing stuff about an hour before game time while the boys are warming up. I'd like to include some things that will get the boys pumped up, but nothing with dirty/offensive lyrics that need to be edited out. We have tons of older stuff in our own collection to draw from (Eagles, Tom Petty, CCR). Any other ideas?

    TIA,
    Suzy

    Suzy,

Way to take matters into your own hands! I hope you have a blast being the DJ. We had a DJ at our block party on the 4th and he did a great job of playing music that everyone likes without any offensive lyrics.

Here's some of what he played that I can remember:
"Who Let The Dogs Out"- all the little kids liked it
    "Tequila"- got everyone dancing
Beatles, but not sure how 10th graders would feel about that
    Fleetwood Mac
    Bob Marley
    Madonna
    some country tunes

AC/DC always seems to get people pumped up, I don't think Hells Bells or Thunderstruck have explicit lyrics.

I'm sure more musically knowledgeable people will chime in with better suggestions.

Editing to say I found this link that might give you some ideas: http://www.djzone.net/pg/resources/m...00/index.shtml

The first song that popped into my mind was "Centerfield" by John Fogerty. "Who Let the Dogs Out" was a good idea, too- kids like that - it can get them pumped up.

I'm trying to think of some of the songs DS is learning to play for the band's football games, but they're standard ones like "Wipe Out" and "We Will Rock You." As for current music- try movie soundtracks. Sometimes they integrate popular songs or at least songs that go with action. (Spiderman, for example) I'll try to think of some more.

AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" was the first one to pop into my head. Also "Greased Lightning" from Grease. "Sweet Home Alabama" maybe...Also I would suggest mixing it up a bit and throw in a zippy country toon or two. Or some classic 80's tunes- "Centerfold" maybe?

Blondie (One Way or Another is a fun one)
    Commodores (Brick House)
Dexy's Midnight Runners (Come on Eileen)
    Green Day
    Offspring
    Lenny Kravitz (Live, Supersoulfighter)
REM (It's the End of the World as we Know it)
    Red Hot Chili Peppers
Stevie Ray Vaughn (If the House is Rockin)

    Thanks for the suggestions!!
Lisa, I am wanting to use the Chili Pepper's version of Rollercoaster and I hadn't thought of Blondie or Lenny Kravitz. Brick House is also a good one (I think I've heard that at another school's field).
mrswaz, we have Sweet Home Alabama on our list....everybody loves that one; and we have some AC/DC on our list, too.
Anna, my younger son suggested Queen, too.
Vivian, movie soundtracks....cool . I know my kids like A Knight's Tale so maybe I should get that one.
Krista, Who Let the Dogs Out; I forgot all about that one!

Here's a list of some of the things we came up with out of our own collection as of yesterday:
Old Time Rock & Roll - Bob Seger
Workin For a Livin - Huey Lewis
Rock This Country - Shania Twain
Little Miss Can't be Wrong - Spin Doctors
Bad Case of Loving You - Robert Palmer
    Fortunate Son - CCR
    Star 69 - REM
Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac
Any Way You Want it - Journey
    Sharp Dressed Man - ZZTop
    You Might Think - Cars
    Smokin - Boston
    5150 - Van Halen
    Twist and Shout - Beatles
    Blue Collar Man - Styx
    All Right Now - Free
    ABC - Jackson 5
    American Girl - Tom Petty
    Boom - POD
    All Star - Smashmouth
    Respect - Aretha Franklin
    Mr Jones - Counting Crows

As you can see, we have a lot of classic rock, and we need some newer stuff and probably some country (I can always plug my ears ). Which ones are good?

    Check out Amazon!

I just looked on there and ESPN has put together a bunch of CDs for sports-- called Jock Rock and Jock Jams. Do a search for popular music and "jock". At least it might give you some more ideas even if you don't want to buy them. HTH.

I don't know how much today's teenagers like 80s music, but to me a lot of that really says summer.

    Abracadabra...Steve Miller
    Whip IT...Devo
You Might Think and Since You're Gone...The Cars
One of the songs that's played during Ferris Bueller - think while he's explaining why he can't go to school that day - something like "Moon...Beautiful...Sun...More Beautiful"
    Shock the Monkey...Peter Gabriel
    Jump...Van Halen

Some country songs that would be good are
Young and Don't Happen Twice...Kenny Chesney
    Honey I'm Home...Shania Twain
Rock My World (Little Country Girl)...Brooks & Dunn

Lisa, I must've spent about 2 hours yesterday looking at all those different ESPN CDs and some others like them! I ordered one on half.com and will get another....have to decide which one.
Jennifer, the one I ordered has that song "Oh Yeah" by Yello that you are talking about from Ferris Beuller.

I'm going to throw in some Nirvana, too

I am listening to The Charlies Angels Full Throttle soundtrack and it occured to me U Can't Touch This by MC Hammer would be a good one to add to your play list.

Tonight was my first night as the DJ . I didn't hear any complaints and at the end of the game when I played Get Jiggy (Will Smith) I saw kids on the other team dancing .
I have a ton of stuff on hold at the library so I'll be putting more stuff together.

My only gripe is that it was about 100-101 degrees today and it was so HOT in the box!!! Yikes!

    Thanks again for the suggestions

Cool! That's neat that some of the kids were dancing!
