    Dinner and a Movie

I had a new experience today. Anybody else done this. I theater opened here that combine a movie theater with a full restuarant that also serve beer and wine. They have taken out ever other row in a movie at the mall and you can order from a pretty good menu and enjoy a movie at the same time. We saw Pitates of the Caribbean.

Were the pitates on your plate or on the screen? Just teasing! I've never heard of that concept; would you recommend the experience?

We have the Granada Movie Grill in Dallas, but they have a limited menu sort of thing (sandwiches, pizza and movie food. oh, and a full bar).

We have a place like that in Austin called The Alamo Drafthouse. We've been hesitant to go under the assumption that listening to people chew and clink silverware would detract from the movie, however, everyone whose been says it's really kind of fun and that being surrounded by people munching is not really a distraction. We may try it out.

What's the name of the one in Houston?

I've been to one in Oregon. I think it depends on the type of movie you are going to see. If it's something fun, it works great. If it's more serious, and you have to pay attention more, I wound up either eating and not watching or watching and not eating.

But, we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us. Oh, yeah, did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick. Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

I haven't done it but they have a chain around here called 'Chunky's' that's supposed to be a similar concept. It sounds fun though I tend to agree with Bethany that the type of movie probably makes all the difference. I can't imagine watching something as depressing as 'The Hours' or 'Leaving Las Vegas' in a setting like that but an action/adventure flick would be probably be fun.

    Anna,

You should definitely check out Alamo Drafthouse. It's not at all distracting, like I thought it would be, and their food is pretty good. Whenever we're in the mood for a movie, we always check first to see if it's playing there.

The other benefit of the Alamo Drafthouse is that, because they have a full bar, there are no kids. For those of us who are getting sick of all the whiny 3-year olds in R-rated movies, it is a plus!

    we have several around here.

they recently opened a new one in downers grove. it is nice. they serve a full dinner menu, alcoholic beverages & they even sell popcorn & sour patch kids! there are big leather executive chairs & it is pretty nice. except the arm rests on the chairs do not go up so it is hard to get close to the one you love.
