    Baby Slings

Coversations on the new moms thread has gotten me to thinking that a baby sling might be just what I need. A little research has shown me that there are a ton of different styles/brands! Help!! If you use (or have used a baby sling) I love to know what your thoughts are.

My baby is almost 20 lbs. now (10 months) and I have about a 1/2 mile walk to (and from) the bus stop and day care. I've decided my umbrella stroller is just too much hassle on a bus. Carrying her this morning was okay but I'd love a little support that I think a sling might give me. I'm looking for something easy to slip on & use. Something small that I could just keep in my work bag/satchel.

http://www.peppermint.com has some great comparison information and I'm learning towards the Maya (as it was also recommended on the new moms thread). I wonder if I'd want the Pouch or the sling so hope others might have some input here. (I am a larger woman so worry about fit).

I absolutely love my fleece pouch from www.kangarookorner.com. It is stretchy and holds its shape well. My 26 lb. 10-month-old DS is very comfortable in it - I believe it goes up to 35 lbs. I use it all the time. It is a little warm in hot weather, but not too bad. It doesn't have rings like most slings, and it folds up flat and compact. The pouch is easy to put on - no complicated straps or buckles.

Kangaroo Korner also has a comparison chart and very explicit fit instructions. The pouch has three rows of snaps which are adjustable to help you find the right fit. Since you wear the pouch so high on your body, the size will depend on your bust/upper body size, not hips.

I've not used the Maya, but I've heard good things about it. One sling I wouldn't recommend is the NoJo - it hangs too low and hurts your back.

I think a sling or pouch would be perfect for you! I hardly ever use my stroller because the pouch is so convenient. It's cozy, too.

Kim, did you ever find your sling?

I just wanted to add that it will be well worth the investment. I don't know what I'd do without it -- and I'm carrying around a 30 pound toddler!

My sling is a hand-me-down thing called "Parents' Choice" or something like that.

Thanks for everyone's input (here and on the July New Mom's thread in case anyone else is researching). I ordered the Maya Pouch wrap. I'm hoping it arrives today - it felt like Lainey gained 5 lbs. since I lugged her back and forth to daycare on Friday!

Just a comment -- I never used my sling much until I had someone show me in person how to put it on and adjust it. If you know anyone else with one, it will be a lot easier to figure out.
