Thread: Do you lick the lid?

    Do you lick the lid?

Silly poll I know...but do you lick the lid? I was standing in the kitchen at work opening a yogurt and I licked the lid off, as usual and then looked around to see if anyone was in there (thankfully no) and maybe thought that was completely weird and childish and akin to drinking the milk out of the cereal bowl or something.

I think I do it on just about anything that has a lid with stuff stuck to it, totally out of habit!

I don't usually lick the lid, but I do drink my milk out of the cereal bowl!
We figured there was too much happiness here for just the two of us, so we figured the next logical step was to have us a critter.

I lick the lid. And drink the milk out of my cereal bowl. No point in wasting any food!

I don't lick lids, nope. I will, on the other hand, take a spoon and scrape the ice cream off the ice cream lids, though.

it depends what is on the lid But usually I'll take the spoon and scrape it off because with my luck if I licked it ... I would be wearing it somewhere on my face!

I lick yogourt lids, for sure! That's the best part... all the liquid's drained off, so it's this nice, firm, creamy solid. especially good if it's, say, my favourite flavour (Silhouette Creamy Caramel...)

I don't drink the milk from my cereal, because I don't usually eat cereal. But I remember when I WAS a kid, that I (and my brothers and sister too) would dump spoonfuls of sugar on top, just let it sink to the bottom, then eat that grey sugary slurry off the bottom with our spoons.

Ah, those were the days. Then I was high as a kite for the rest of the morning. BOINGY BOINGY!

Oh, yeah, did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick. Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

Another lid-licker here! And my favorite part of eating cereal is the milk left at the bottom of the bowl! SLURRRP!

Same here. Acutally I have heard that you should drink the milk because many vitamins in the cereal stay behind in the milk. Now I don't know if that is the truth, or just an excuse to drink it.

What? You mean you're not *supposed* to lick the lid?

    Me too!
Life is all about a$$; you're either covering it, laughing it off, kicking it, kissing it, busting it, trying to get a piece of it, behaving like one, or you live with one.

Chalk me up as a lid-licker, but I'm selective. Anyone lick the lids of, say, the stewed tomato cans or any other veggies, like creamed corn, or maybe the tops of those little pudding cups? I'm a no-waste kind of guy.

i never lick the lids. never thought of it much. i may use my spoon to wipe off any yogurt, pudding, sour cream or whatever is stuck to it and stir it back into the container, but there is no actual lid licking involved.

i dont drink the milk in the bottom of my cereal either because there usually is none leftover. i hate lots of milk in cereal. i like just enough for the cereal to get slightly soft, but no for it to float around in there. if there happens to be a little milk left, i throw it out. the milk in the bottom of the bowl tastes gross to me. and i cant stand the taste of drinking milk early in the morning. it is okay to complement the cereal, but i dont like to taste it on its own. i am complicated huh?

And again (as opposed to "ditto" ) A paper cut on the tongue has stopped me from EVER licking lids again........

Like sunberst, I take a spoon and stir whatever is stuck to the lid back into the container.

As for milk in my cereal - if there's any left at the bottom of the bowl either one of the cats or the dog gets it.

Yes, I always lick the lid on yogurt--I agree it's the densest, creamiest part!

As for the milk in the bottom of the cereal bowl, yes, I drink that, but I didn't used to. I too read that it's vitamin infused from your vitamin-fortified cereal. My understanding is that the cereals are essentially "sprayed" with the vitamins and soak into your milk pretty quickly. Since then, I've tried to drink it all. It doesn't bother me (even though skim turns sort of unsightly when it's had the cereal soaking into it .).

Talking Lid licking gives a preview of what's to come!

I always lick the lid on pudding cups as well as yogurt. I have also seen other coworkers do the same thing.

    I ALWAYS lick the lid!

But I'm very careful -- I got a nasty cut on my finger from a foil lid from a sour cream container. Just the thought of that on my tongue! (shiver)

I'm a bad dog-mommy, I know, but if I'm home, I let Ellie lick the yogurt lids FOR me.

BTW -- "bad dog-mommy" is different than "bad-dog mommy" -- Ellie wanted me to clarify that for you all. She's a very good girl. (Now I guess I'm a CRAZY dog-mommy!)

When it comes to yogurt...yes! In fact, I was watching tv one night and a Yoplait commercial showed women licking the lids so I felt much better about it!!

Ugh. Where is the "I hate that commercial thread" when you need it. It's not the licking part that bothers me, it's the truly embarrassing dialogue. Those commercials make we want to buy Dannon.

I think that's the one where the annoying women say that Yoplait is "weekend with no boys good!". Gag me.

Aie! That sounds painful! And you can't even use a bandaid! Well, I never lick the lids, I just use my spoon to scrape the yogurt off the lid. But when I was a kid I used to always lick the bowl after eating ice cream. I think I may have even done that recently...

I usually use a spoon to scrape the lids; I don't lick them because I don't like that "plasticky" taste of the lid. I don't mind licking the foil lids of pudding, though. As for cereal, I think I used to drink the milk from the bowl, but I really don't eat cereal anymore. The last time I had it was probably 10 years ago.

I let Otis or Cally lick the lids AND drink the milk from my cereal!

Now that I know I'm not the only one -- I'll confess I don't drink the leftover milk either -- Ellie's definitely NOT calcium-deficient!
