    Cool Common knowledge

There are 29 questions about things we see every day or have known about all our lives. How many can you get right?

These little simple questions are harder than you think - it just shows you how little we pay attention to the commonplace things of life. Put your thinking caps on...

Can you beat 18?? (The average is 7) Write down your answers and check the answers (on the bottom) AFTER completing all the questions.

    1. On a standard traffic light, is the green on the top or bottom?
    2. How many states are there? (Don't laugh, some people don't know.)
    3. In which hand is the Statue of Liberty's torch?
    4. What six colors are on the classic Campbell's soup label?
    5. What two letters don't appear on the telephone dial? (No cheating!)
    6. What two numbers on the telephone dial don't have letters by them?

    11. Which way does water go down the drain, counter or clockwise?
    12. Which way does a "no smoking" sign's slash run?
    13. How many channels on a VHF TV dial?
    14. Which side of a women's blouse are the buttons on?
    15. On a NY license plate, is New York on the top or bottom?
    16. Which way do fans rotate?
    17. Whose face is on a dime?
    18. How many sides does a stop sign have?
    19. Do books have even-numbered pages on the right or left side?
    20. How many lug nuts are on a standard car wheel?
    21. How many sides are there on a standard pencil?
    22. Sleepy, Happy, Sneezy, Grumpy, Dopey, Doc. Who's missing?
    23. How many hot dog buns are in a standard package?
    24. On which playing card is the card maker's trademark?
    25. On which side of a Venetian blind is the cord that adjusts the opening between the slats?
    26. On the back of a $1 bill, what is in the center?
    27. There are 12 buttons on a touch tone phone. What two symbols bear no digits?
    28. How many curves are there in the standard paper clip?
    29. Does a merry-go-round turn counter or clockwise?

    Gotcha beat with 19 here.

So, what bill has the pyramid eyeball thing? Grrrr. And a VHF dial? I haven't seen a knob on a TV set since I was like 8!

That's on the one dollar bill...but it's left of center.

I got 22. I think this, along with the budget-tracking I described on another thread yesterday, is a sign that I am obviously spending too much time thinking about details!!!

    Yeah! I got 19!

I'm with you MK, haven't seen a knob on on an VHF dial in AGES. Same goes for the lowest number on the FM dial.

I got 5 of the colors on the Campbel soup label - I forgot Blue.

    Cool, fun quiz.

    *hehe*

The only reason I got the last dwarf is that I have a shirt from the Disney Store with all the dwarves embroidered on it. I get asked to name all the dwarves every time I wear it.

Oh, and I have a TV with dials on it in the bedroom. I still got that question wrong. We just turn that on and use the VCR to change channels.

I got 21, but that was with several lucky guesses on the right/left and counter/clockwise questions. Cool quiz!

    18. I *almost* got all the colors on the Campbell's Soup label... I put green instead of blue, but got them all right otherwise.

I also missed the dime, and the no-smoking sign, among others. Oh, and Bashful.

I got 20! Yay! Something to feel good about after the crappy Monday I had. I missed every single question that had to do with clockwise or counterclockwise, and the VHF channels got me, too. I didn't think I was detail oriented but maybe I just know weird tidbits of information?

    Thanks for posting this, Lisa.

"Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. We need to have the strength and power of a football player, the stamina of a marathon runner and the concentration of a brain surgeon. But, we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us. Oh, yeah, did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick. Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

Yea! I got 21! I forgot gold on the Campbells soup can.

    YAY!

I got 20! Some of those are tricky though, my ceiling fans change direction and I don't live in NY, so I don't know about the license plates.

That was pretty cool, I'll pass it around.

I also got 19. I ended up with 5 out of 6 soup can colors...I had green instead of gold. I could remember *6* of the 7 dwarfs....all the ones listed. Couldn't remember Bashful for anything!!

Edited to say I actually got 21 right. I looked back to see what questions I missed and found I had marked two wrong. I knew my "CC" meant counter-clockwise, but when I checked the answers, I marked two of them wrong.

I got 20 - I had NO idea about the FM dial or the VHF dial, so I didn't even guess. I also missed the one about Bashful (I thought the one missing was Nosey ...shows how well I know my dwarfs).

I got 21... and would've gotten 23 if I'd thought through the question first. I'm with Claire... I think I spend far too much time on the detail.

I got 23! Don't recall every having seen a New York plate, have never bothered to count matches in the book, and thought a merry-go-round was clockwise for sure along with the toilet...now I know better!

25! Guessed on the last one; missed the Campbell soup colors (gold & blue?), $ bill, and no-smoking slash.

    *LOL*

I totally think Disney should add Nosey as a new dwarf. That's great.

15, but 2 were complete guesses. Apparently I'm not terribly perceptive!

John took the test - he's insisting I report that he scored 20. And yes, that's 1 better than me.

15 here... but I have to say, my venetian blinds have the pull up on the right. We had a choice when we put them in as to which side to have them on. And as for the fan, I pictured my ceiling fan, and it has a switch to go either way! So, I think I'll give myself at least one bonus point so I get 16. Still pretty dismal though...
