Getting mustard stain out of sweater?

Yesterday I spilled a big blob of mustard on a relatively new sweater - I wiped it right away with a cloth then put it in the wash with some spray and wash. Two washes later, the stain is still visible!

Any suggestions on how to get this out?

    Can you do hydrogen peroxide?
Oprah says baby wipes work great, but not sure how well after it's been washed and dried already

Well, I haven't put it in the dryer at all.

It's a blue cotton sweater. I have never heard the baby wipes thing -might be worth a try.

Beth, I had great luck with the suggestion on this thread, but it was ink and not mustard. Might be worth a shot?

From a book put out by Consumer Reports called How to Clean Practically Anything, they recommend the following steps in this order for mustard stains:
    1. Mild detergent
    2. Ammonia
    3. Vinegar
    4. Enzyme-containing detergent

They also suggest that "sunlight may quickly fade mustard stains."

Certainly worth a try. Many dry cleaners are pretty good with stains, but they don't usually have much success after you've washed it.

I have used Zout to remove mustard stains. I'd spray with Zout, let it hang out for a few hours, then soak in OxyClean (my other favorite) then wash again.
If this is the worst thing that happens all year, I think I can deal with it!

    Use Zout!

It gets out anything!! Just keep treating it, washing, treating, washing until it comes out -- don't dry it until it's GONE!

On a fresh stain (ie: not washed already), soda water is really good.

I personally have had great success with Oxyclean. Even getting that mustardy babypoop out of clothes. I just wet the spot and sprinkle Oxy on the stain. It is gone by the time the item dries and then I can reuse the Oxy because it's dry too!
