Supper Club in Charleston, SC, Area

Interested in forming a new cooking club in the Charleston area? If you would like to meet new people for good conversation (the best happen around a table ) and good food, let's get together! My husband and I are new in the area. This Supper Club would be open to married folks and single folks. Diversity is good!

    If interested, please post!

    Hi,
I would love to be invovled in a CL supper club. I just moved back to to Mt. Pleasant with my family after being away for 3 years. DH and I have been big Cooking Light fans for years. We have packed and moved issues that date all the way back to 1995 several times !

I can't wait to get together!

    Yay y'all,
I am so excited that there are some others out there who are interested. I have wanted to participate in a Cooking Light club since I first started reading about them a few years ago.
I am bummed though because we just converted our dining room to an office and sold our dining room table and chairs . Isn't that just the way things happen sometimes?

    Thumbs up Charleston Supper Club

I'd love to do this supper club! My husband and I have been here a little over a year, and I think it would be lots of fun to meet some new folks. Let's meet up sometime in the next few weeks and talk details... Where might be a good idea?

    Wow!

    Hi, fellow Charlestonians!

I didn't check my post for a couple of days and now it is starting to look like we have enough people for a supper club! Sounds great!

Why don't we shoot for a Friday or Saturday night either in the end of Sept or beginning of Oct? Maybe by then whoever has time could get together and do a little planning - we could meet on a Sat. morning for coffee. How does Sept 13, at the West Ashley Barnes and Noble (on Sam Rittenburg)at 10:00 sound? After the meeting, we could post the info about the first supper date/logistics, etc.

I don't know how much of a response we'll get to this post... I think a number between 8 and 10 is a good cut off, though I know not everyone who is interested will actually be able to do this.

I'm looking forward to meeting "ya'll"!

    Hey Evelyn and all!

I am so excited that there are some interested parties out there. The weekend of the 13th may be a busy one for me as it is my little boy's 5th B-day on the 14th....but unless I'm in pinata panic or having unforseen problems with preparations, I will be at Barnes and Noble to get together and make some Supper Club plans.

    Have a great week everybody!!

    Hey there everyone,

I just thought that I would bump this up to see if we get any more interested folks.

Are we still on for getting together next Saturday morning?

    Hey Tiffany,

I didn't initiate this thread, Evelyn did, but I say come on and join!! If everyone who has posted on this thread comes, that's 6 of us and I don't think that's too many.

I've got to find my September issue so that I can bring it. I just started a new job within the last month and I have not had time to get into trying anything in the new issue.

Have a great week everybody and we'll see you on Saturday.

    Smile Supper Club Meeting Info.

Hello new Charleston Supper Club people,

Tiffany, Sam and I met this Saturday and decided on having our first meal as a club on Sunday, October 19, at 6 pm, at my place. If you are interested and would like directions, let me know and I'll send you a private message.

We will be cooking a menu from Sept.'s Cooking Light. The menu is on page 100. We have divided up the menu between the 3 of us, but would love to include others, so if there is something you really want to cook, let us know. The menu does not include a dessert, so if anyone can think of a good dessert to end this meal, that would be great. Also, if you want to come but don't want to cook this time, we could always use a good bottle of wine or some yummy non-alcoholic beverage (for those who don't/can't drink at this time).

The three of us met to plan this, but at least one of our husbands will be attending the meal and we hope to include anyone who wants to come.

    Looking forward to it!

    Evelyn

Hey Samantha, I did get your message and replied. Let me know if you didn't get it. I looked in my CL last night and thought maybe I would make the pumpkin carrot cake with lemon cream cheese frosting on p. 140..would that be ok or do you all need something else?
    Thanks, can't wait! Syndie

    Charleston Supper Club

    Hi Evelyn,
I just logged on to the cooking light supper club website and saw your message. I am new to the Charleston area, live in West Ashley. I see that you all met last Sat. at B&N and sorry I didn't know or would have joined you. My husband and I would enjoy meeting/cooking with you all. Please let me know if it isn't too late and we would love to join you.
    Thanks,
    Nancy

    Hey Syndie and Nancy,
It will be awesome to have you all join. The more the merrier!

    Syndie... the desert sounds great.

Nancy... Please do come. I was planning on bringing beef curry with toasted spices and the mango and mint chutney. If you would like to tackle the chutney you may. Or if you would like, add something to the menu and I will still do the chutney.I don't mind either way. I am planning on trying the curry this weekend to practice. I don't want to fail for our big get together .

Enjoy this great weather this weekend!

    Hey MichelleLee,
As I said yesterday, the more the merrier!! I don't think that Evelyn checks this site as often as I do.(I like the "healty living" and "other stuff" forums.) I will call Evelyn and let her know that we have so many new interested people!
Can't wait to meet on the 19th!

    Hello All,

I'm sorry I missed the september 13th meeting, the posts about it were about the time that worm virus was bombarding my email account with messages and I didn't get a notice that there were new messages here! Anyway, I would like to participate, however I won't be able to attend the first dinner as I'll be out of town. Please keep me updated for future dinners. My only catch is that neither my husband nor I eat meat, so I'd have to be committed to making a vegetarian dish if there wasn't another one planned. Please let me know if this would be fine with the group.

    Looking forward to getting together!!

    Sounds great

Hi, everyone! Samantha is right, I don't check this site very often. I am looking forward to having everyone at my home. It would be great to have confirmation from folks who are coming and what they are bringing so that I can make sure we have all we need. As it stands now, I think that as of this post, we can't take anyone else or else we won't fit in my house I do hope that Syndie +1, Nancy + 1 and Michelle are coming in addition to Sam +1 and Tiffany +1 (+1-significant other). That brings the total to 11 or 12, let me know. Looking forward to it! I will be Private Messaging you directions.

    See you soon,

    Evelyn

PS Hope you all don't mind not eating at a table.

    Evelyn(and everyone else),

    Don't forget Elizabeth.

I was thinking this morning that with such a large crowd, I would love to make a CL chicken and potato curry(old favorite of mine)in addition to the beef curry. Does that sound OK?

    food all sounds good

    Hi, everyone!

All the food suggestions sound yummy. As for Elizabeth, she said she can't make it this time, but we'll keep her in mind for the next one.

By the way, for those of you I haven't met, my husband and I do community development in a low-income neighborhood and that is where we live Things may look a little different than an average neighborhood, but it is perfectly safe! We love it!
