Smile Review: French Onion Soup w/ Beef & Barley (Jan/Feb '00)

I made this last night and it was great! Even the pickey SO thought so. So far I'm 3 for 3 with new recipes this week. I made the One Pan Wiskey Pork Chops, the Sour Cream Coffee Cake and this and they were all fantastic which is a nice change. A number of new recipes I've tried lately haven't been that good and I'm always very disappointed when I spend all that time and trouble on a flop. Maybe I'm just learning how to "work" these recipes.

Thanks for the good review. I'm always looking for good soup recipes especially with barley since I have a box of it I've been wanting to use. I totally agree with you about the flops. It's so disapponting when something doesn't turn out or the taste just isn't very good. Not only have I spent the time but I usually have to buy ingredients I don't have on hand so it ends up costing a little more money. However I do make quite a few recipes we really like. This week I made the Spicy Apple Glazed Chick'n' Grits Gorgonzola and hubby gave it a 10. Tomorrow we're trying the Hoisin Barbecued Chicken so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
