    skinny Colorado

I thought this map was fascinating with Co as the only state with under 15% obesity rates among the population

I believe it. I consider myself relatively fit, but Colorado draws active people. People live for each season to do something different, it can be a little intimidating, but I also find very inspiring.

That's awesome. Interesting map. The state's definitely an outdoor activity mecca. But, you also have to factor in the large population of military, the Olympic training center and Boulder's affinity for elite runners. That's a lot of skinny people!

Boulder, Colorado has so many fit people it's incredible! In fact, the rarity is seeing someone overweight or smoking. I love it, especially when all of the running moms pass people with their baby joggers!

    I'm surprised Wisconsin wasn't higher

    Wallycat,

That was my first thought, too. :0 Too many beer guts in this state, I'm tellin' ya.

Many years ago, I used to annually ski in Colorado. I noticed then that I never really saw many overweight, out-of-shape people hanging out. Very few smokers. Just really healthy looking people. It looks like it's still the same.

And I'm not the least bit surprised to see SC in the highest percentage range.

    Colorado vs Wisconsin

I moved from Colorado to Wisconsin 5 years ago. The difference is amazing. I agree with the previous posts that CO draws and cultivates fit people. The climate and geography are very conducive to healthy living. There are healthy, active people in WI, they just seem to be fewer and farther between than in CO.

Then they didn't look where I used to live in the 4 Corners area. (Town of Mancos, near Durango.) There might be physically fit people on the rich ski slopes (Aspen!) but there were zillions of unhealthy Indians on the reservations. Three out of five people I used to see in supermarkets were fat...I mean round. All sorts of fried foods and beans loaded with fat - you could get that just about anywhere you wanted. Few places featured healthy foods. The economy was extremely depressed (and still is). People ate cheap and plentiful. It was quite unfortunate.
