    Fav 80's Movies!!!!!

Hey guys!! I just found an old threat that Pammy started on October 20th of 2001!!! Most of us are old enough that we got to see all the FABULOUS movies of the 80's, and I think that John Hughes has made a serious impact on all of our lives. :P But take a minute to vote on your favorite 80's movie of all time (and believe me, it's hard to choose just one of them!) and let everybody know why. Have fun!!!

Wow... does your list bring back some powerful high school memories! I chose "Sixteen Candles" because I think it probably epitomizes that period in my life... although I remember really enjoying the Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire and Ferris Beuler too. Just that Molly Ringwald -- anticlimactic sweet 16 and all -- was who I wanted to be during my teenage years.

    Ferris? Ferris? Ferris Beuller?

I picked that one by default. I think I've seen it about a zillion times at least!!! It's one of those movies that if I stumble across it, I have to watch at least a few minutes of it.

Of the ones listed, Some Kind of Wonderful. However, St. Elmo's Fire is my absolute favorite! St. Elmo's reminded me so much of me and my little group of friends.

Sixteen Candles with a close second by Ferris!

Aack! How can I choose? I lovd all of these.

I picked "Say Anything", although the John Hughes films and St. Elmo's would better define my teen years.

Just a side note, Ferris was filmed at my high school - and a lot of my friends were in that movie.

Say Anything is my favorite, but Ferris is a close second. We must have watched that movie a dozen times.

That was hard! I chose Ferris because it has held up so well. When we went on vacation to Chicago, we spent a day on the Ferris Bueller tour. It was great!

I love 16 Candles, but St Elmo's probably made the biggest impact on me at the time. I wonder which would be our favorites if there were no showings on tv or vcr or dvd.

I didn't go to the movies much in the 80s ...but I loved The Breakfast Club!
Shirley, how fun to have that movie filmed at your high school!

Definitely Ferris! He inspired me to take "Wendy Bueller" days off occasionally over the years. You forgot to add Risky Business to the options.

The Breakfast Club has to be my favorite of these because I spent so much time in Saturday School in high school. (My hihg school had a policy that if you were late to school more than a set number of times you were required to attend a Saturday school session.) I made a lot of unlikely friends there, though nothing as dramatic as BC.

I can't believe that!! None of them? Sounds like someone needs a John Hughes-a-thon ASAP!

I chose The Breakfast Club because to this day it is my top 10 movies of all times. I know it all by heart.

I need an O.o. option. Star Wars for me, thanks. Indiana Jones anyone?

St. Elmo's Fire was definitely my favorite, but Say Anything is a close second.

Star Wars was 1977, I was born, and there were 2 more Star Wars films that followed. ESB was 1980, ROTJ was 1983.

    And what about ET?

Many of these are wonderful and bring back great memories--I agree that Ferris Bueller and Say Anything have probably held up the best.

Still, I had to go with my sentimental favorite here--I mean, really, a young Nicolas Cage AND The Plimsouls? How could I vote otherwise?

That chick Julie, man. She is truly dazzling.

Didn't anyone else like Fast Times at Ridgmont High? Sean Penn was hiliarious in it! Judge Reinhold was pretty great too. I don't think I ever saw Ferris Beuller, but the Breakfast Club, St. Elmo's Fire and Sixteen Candles were all great. John Hughes--he knows how to do those coming of age comedies.

Isn't it cool to find old threads??!!

I voted back then for Ferris Bueller, and voted again the same . On that same older thread many people said they liked the Princess Bride , which I had never seen, but I'm happy to report I did see it this past summer. My sons thought it was hilarious, too!

dublchk, I liked Fast Times, too, I just wouldn't pick it as my favorite out of the ones listed....I'd say it's maybe my 4th pick out of the 10 she listed

I love them all!!! To pick one, though, I'd have to say Ferris.
    "Ferris Bueller, you're my hero."

Anything John Hughes ranks up there, too. Breakfast Club is probably a close second. Say Anything and Better off Dead are on the list, but don't forget John Cusack's other masterpiece One Crazy Summer! He was Mr. 80s, wasn't he? Don't forget his small, but vital, appearance in Sixteen Candles!
