    Anyone watching Jaime's Kitchen?

And being appalled at the flakiness of these "cooks"

I would kill for that chance!

(Can you tell I am home alone - I needed someone to complain to!)

    Thanks!

Well, it's interesting, but it doesn't renew my faith in the welfare system. Of course, they focus on the ungraetful ones and rarely show the ones that are doing good. So perhaps it's not quite reality...

there's about 500 other things I should be doing, but I'm parked in front of Food Network. I think I may have an addiction and need some intervention!

But you balance your Food Network addiction beautifully with BB-dependency issues!

I know. I try to restrain myself from over-contributing, since I really don't know crap about cooking.

But I think I know more than the cooks on that show. Thank goodness it's over for tonight. But I have to confess that I will be planted here again tomorrow night watching again.

Off to bed for me! Night!

i saw the first two days, but i missed todays because....

    I WAS MEETING JAMIE OLIVER!!

it was a lot of fun...he was doing a book signing and there were hundreds of people there...and you werent allowed to bring your camera up to the stage so i had my friend take some offstage- but he messed up the one where i had jamie actually pose with me and its just a blur  but i have one of us taalking together, so its ok....

but yes, the chefs make me a bit angry, but we know it turns out all right in the end i wish i had that kind of opportunity- cooking school is so darn expensive, especially in new york, and the competition afterwards to get a job is tremendous, even with 12989798309290382080938 restaurants. i had a friend who went to thailand to go to culinary school because it was way too expensive- and now these kids are looking a gift horse in the mouth, or whatever that expression is....

I am getting quite an education on human nature watching this series. It seems to be the swing of our society and it disturbs me. I think Jaime should look here for us over the top foodies and give us a chance! We'd look like panting begging hyper puppies - the camera couldn't keep up w/ us! And what a restaurant that would be!!

that is so cool that you met Jaime. His accent is sooooo cute.

How many second chances is he going to give the slackers? 20? He's way more accomodating than I would be. It's interesting to observe his management/teaching style though.

It has been decided that all BB interventions are to be held at Sur La Table, by the way.

But, we need to put all this together while moving at high speeds on a cold and slippery surface while 5 other guys use clubs to try and kill us. Oh, yeah, did I mention that this whole time we're standing on blades 1/8 of an inch thick. Is ice hockey hard? I don't know, you tell me. Next question."

I confess....I've been watching the show!

If I was footing the bill for those juvenile brats to go to school, giving them the opportunity of a lifetime, etc, I kick some serious *&^ and just boot them out! Grrrrr......ungrateful people just really tick me off! IMHO, I think that Jamie has exercised the upmost patience with those kids, I wish he was my boss!

oh man! i just saw tonights episode- these kids are brats. BRATS! the show is like a car wreck though- the kids are so bad, you just have to watch.

has anyone else noticed that Jules always looks good, even when shes pregnant or tired? i doubt my mom looked that glowing when she had to carry me around!

and yes, jamies accent is REALLY cute-and he's adorable! BTW, yesterday he said that originally there are 7 episodes and we wont get to see 6 & 7 for some reason..also, he said he might live in the States in 2005 for a 6 months or so, and that if everything goes right, they're going to try to open a Fifteen in NYC!

I can't believe those kids either! My children (should there ever be any) will at least have a work ethic.

I'm just sad as I probably won't get to watch the last episode tomorrow night as it's Dad's belated b-day party. And then this weekend I am going out of town. So sad... I'll have to pm you for the dish so that we don't spoil it for those who haven't seen it!

I've never watched Jamie's Kitchen. I've only read about his experiment with the restaurant. Is the restaurant actually a success? I read Jamie Oliver sank all of his money into this project.

Thanks for the info about the marathon. I never got to watch the series, so I'm glad that I can catch up. I don't work with foodies, so I miss out a lot on the current stuff. That's why this board is so great.

Here's a link to a follow-up article on the series:

    http://media.guardian.co.uk/realityt...029959,00.html

I found this really interesting to watch. I didn't have quite the same negative reaction towards the trainees - but I missed the first episode. Wasn't Jamie trying to give disadvantaged kids a chance at a job/career? Not that these kids shouldn't have had a good work ethic, but they may have been from backgrounds where they didn't see that growing up, either.

It was amazing to me that he could throw the simplest ingredients together and make it into a beautiful plate of food. Apparently the restaurant has just now started to turn a profit.

I edited to say that I just saw another article about the series - Jamie's wife did have her baby girl and then two months later became pregnant again! So they have a third child on the way.

I watched five hours of the marathon and just couldn't stay up any longer. I watched up until the opening night of his restaurant. Its amazing how 8 out of 15 young people with no jobs and no money could be shaped into great cooks. A much stressful time for Jamie and family.

Beth...I only saw one child which was a daughter.

They had one child, a girl, and I think his wife was pregnant while the series was filming. (She was so slim that this wasn't necessarily evident right away). Then she had that baby and became pregnant again! They named the child she was pregnant with during the show "Poppy Honey."

I caught the marathon off and on yesterday. I thought it was really interesting, but good grief, I think Jamie Oliver has the patience of Job! He was so accomodating with those kids when they cut class (or work) time after time.

Beth- thanks for posting the link to that followup article, too.

their second daughter is named Daisy Boo....

    Jamie is amazing......

thanks for that greatt follow up article! the project itself is really intresting to me. im a huge jamie oliver fan, so ive been following his story for a few years now, and even though i had heard things were tough, i never realized how difficult those kids were. also, like the article says, i think jamie really needed that show to potray him in a different light-= it proved that he had talent and drive and bad days, and wasnt this happy-go-lucky chef that you always see...
