    Tomorrow Is The Day

My brother has by-pass surgery tomorrow. He went down today for tests. When they got finished, he had a meeting with the DR. The doctor told him that what was originally to be triple by-pass would now be quadruple. There is a blockage that will end up having to be by-passed, so they were going to go ahead and get it, while he was in there.

My brother's name is Robert Gibson, he is 53 and we so would appreciate your prayers. They will start prepping him around 9:00 and said that it would be around lunch before they begin the surgery and late tomorrow afternon before we know anything.

I will let you guys know, as soon as I know something.
    Than you, ever so much.

Add our prayers and best wishes to the list.

As a side note, my father just celebrated the 2nd anniversary of his quadrouple bypass a few months ago with a hike to Half Dome in Yosemite! He's 74.

Our best wishes to your brother for tomorrow and then for that long recovery road.

    Joyce,
I will be thinking of you. My dad will turn 78 on Nov. 10th. He had the quadruple bypass last March.......has recuperated and traveled to Guatemala, Florida and Canada since then! I wish your brother an equally good recovery. Katie

Joyce, keeping your DB in our prayers here. I know it's very worrisome for you and the rest of his family but I'm sure he's in the very best hands and his quality of life will be much improved after his surgery. Please keep us posted on his progress.

Prayers for your brother's successful surgery and complete recovery.
Prayers for the surgery team's skill, dedication and success.
Prayers for your brother's family friends: courage, hope and joy.

And especially for your brother - faith, confidence and commitment to healing.

Like they told a good friend who had a bypass operation: basically, they're fixing your heart. It'll be as good as new!

Please let us know how it goes!

IMPORTANT: Before I forget, speaking as the sister of an anesthesiologist - please be aware - tell your family - when they see your brother after surgery, he will look absolutely terrible. He will look, literally, as though he's on his way out of this world. This is very normal. They lower the temperature and slow the pulse, and this look is the result. It is also normal for doctors NOT to tell their patients' families with the result that they go into the recovery room or the cardiac ICU and panic.

I'm going to PM or email this information to you and apologize in advance for intruding, but it is important to get this info to everyone who will be seeing Robert.

    Again, prayers for you all!

Good thoughts and wishes coming your way. My stepfather had a bypass around that age and he is now 10 years older, works out four or five times a week and living a full and healthy life. I hope your brother has a similar outcome.
For you to be here now, trillions of drifting atoms had somehow to assemble in an intricate and intriguingly obliging manner to create you. It's an arrangement so specialized and particular that it has never been tried before and will only exist this once.

...Thanks! I just called my nephew and told him that all of you are praying. He said to tell you that they really appreciate your prayers. I told him what you said beejay1 and he said they really appreciated you taking the time to warn them, as they had no idea.
(That means a lot to me that you have spared them this scare....more than you will ever know!)

He said we should know how things went between 5:00 and 6:00 tonight.
You all are wonderful and I appreciate you so much. I get back with you when I know something!

You have my thoughts and prayers as well....

But I have to admit that I chuckled a little with the warning about how someone will look after surgery. I didn't know this when my grandmother had brain surgery. Not only was she still warming up and look out of it, she had tubes on top of her head to shunt the pressure away from the brain. I nearly went weak at the knees, but I quickly processed the reason and was able to deal with it so my mom didn't have to pick me up off the floor! Better to be prepared.

    Thank you ALL!

We just got word that he did great in surgery. They were able to use two veins from his chest, one from his arm, and one from his leg. He is not cut all the way down his leg. The Doctor expects him to make a complete recovery. One good thing about it was that his heart attack was a mild one and there was very little heart damage. I'm guessing they caught it very early.

I am SO relieved! And can't wait to see him.
I appreciate your thoughts....it was comforting to come back every so often and see what each of you had written, it really helped me to stay positive, today.
    God bless you all.

    Joyce,

I'm glad to hear that your brother came through surgery so well. My Dad had quadruple bypass surgery and I remember him saying that his leg hurt worse than his chest every did.

You and your family will continue to be in my prayers. I hope that your brother has an easy recovery.

    Cheryl
