Tips on Dying fabric in Washing machine?

I cannot find a pale pink turtleneck for my 84 year old dad --he's an aging preppie. I am going to dye a white one in the machine. The directions seem pretty straight forward on the Rit dye package. Just thought I'd see if there were any tips out there. Or--can anyone find a men's XL turtleneck in pale pink?

I've never done it in the washing machine--but I've made many a tie dyed shirt with Rit dye on the stove top in a big pot of hot water. It works great. Just soak it in vinegar after dying to lock in the color.

I've used RIT dye in the washing machine (black).
    Lessee, tips.....
    WEAR GLOVES-your skin will stain
Don't let any of the dye get dirrectly on the fabric-as in full strength-not mixed completely with water. It will cause darker spots on the fabric.
Clean up as soon as possible. I found that the plastic and metal of a washing machine can stain. Soft scrub was good at getting these out.

    I think that's all.

Be sure to run the washer a few times with no clothes in it, just to make sure all the dye is out.
