I have some unopened ricotta that has an expiry date of Dec. 23rd. Do you think it's safe to use it? It looks okay...but I know you can't rely on looks alone.
TIA,
Julie

I usually go by what my nose tells me at that point...it was unopened but then it's 2 weeks past the date..hhmmm....definitely take a whif and go from there! just my 2 cents!
Is smell a reliable indicator? I usually err on the side of caution and toss things that are past their expiry date, but because this is still sealed, I wanted to check before I tossed it...

You can actually taste a tiny bit of the ricotta. It will taste sour if it's bad, just like milk.
That's generally the gauge I use for ricotta and cottage cheeses...
It's so beautifully arranged on the plate - you know someone's fingers have been all over it. --Julia Child

I would guess it is still good since it it sealed.
