    "Theme" Potluck

Every couple of years we throw a party for the Kentucky Derby, and end up having all the guests bring a related dish (already did southern food) Last year everyone had to bring a dish made with Spam (not healthy, but..) The anticipation and the ideas made the party. anyone have an idea for this year's festivities???

    How about a hat theme...

Mexican sombrero with guacamole and chips.

Fireman's hat with super hot salsa.

Queen Mum style hat with cucumber sandwiches.

Viking horns for lefsa, butter and sugar... well maybe that is a little out there, but you get the idea

How about everyone brings a dish from some other race tracks around the world or just the US...

I love rosie's idea, if you go with the mexican sombrero, you could do like a tapas party or if its close to may a cinco de mayo, if you do the mum party have tea with sandwhiches and finger foods! Or you can do like a luau hawiian theme with grass skirts backyard roast, or a bbq theme, have everyone decked out in cowboy hats, bandanas, or even ginham (however you spell it) make brisket, ranch style beans, corn on the cob, etc.

I personally like the idea of a tapas party, but I'm afraid the people coming won't get it. At the same time they are probably not into the other ideas. We're still kicking it around, though. Thanks to all for replying - I'm just getting the hang of this internet chat stuff, but I'm having a ball reading everything, and seeing the friendships that seem to develop. Cool!
