Hello, I've put together an email list for the 2nd Raleigh area club. If you didn't get an email from me this afternoon it means you are not on the list because I haven't done a great job of organizing the emails. If you want to be added to the list just send me one more email and I promise I'll get it straight. Here is the info for the meeting. It is scheduled at the Wellspring Cafe at the Cary Wholefoods off Tryon Road -9/19 at 4 pm. We will organize the group at the meeting with everyone's input but I'll share with everyone what Stephanie and I have discussed so far about the organization of this group.
What we are thinking so far is once a month, 5:30-9:00 pm, host chooses what they want to cook and everyone else fills in around that. To keep this family friendly and accessible to everyone we are capping the food expense to $20-30 per contributing individual or family. Capping the expenses should mean that everyones financial contribution will all work out evenly in the long run. It is up to the host to determine if children are invited. If someone doesn't want or is not able to host for various reasons they can still be part of the group. This will be more of a potluck group rather than an actual cooking group in that we are planning for most people to bring prepared dishes as most of us cannot accommodate a group of cooks in one kitchen. We can arrange to keep things warm or cold. Most dishes are fine at room temp anyway. Also, we are only going to have alcohol with the meal based on other groups recommendations from bad experiences with drunken strangers in their home. We will be focusing on CL recipes but certainly not limiting folks to the mag. If this sounds good to you come on the 19th. Those who have said they can't come to the meeting just email me on the 20th and I'll send you the info.
If we get a huge response to the meeting we can always look at forming smaller, floating subgroups so that everyone will get a chance to meet everyone else at some point without requiring a single host to find seating and flatware for more then they can comfortably handle. Here is my one soapbox moment-I don't want this to be an exclusive thing that makes it hard for people to participate. This should be fun and it can be if we are all flexible while the inevitable kinks get worked out.
I apologize if some of you have heard bits and pieces of this already. This is a work in progress and is still evolving.
See you next week.
