    Canola Oil vs. Vegetable Oil

    I'm not a baker..but was going to make some Chocolate Chews and all I have is Canola oil..Do I need to go out and buy Vegetable Oil if that's what the recipe calls for...?? Thanks, LaurieC

    They are interchangeable. Your recipe will be fine.

    You'll be fine, I use canola for all my baking. In fact, every time DBF cooks (he does most of the asian cooking in our house) we have the following conversation:

    DBF: I need some vegetable oil.
    Me: That bottle there, the one right in front of you.
    DBF (suspiciously): This says canola oil.
    Me: Yes, I know. It's okay, it's from a plant, it's vegetable oil, really.

    We have very similar conversations in our house too... although Dr Love has now actually learnt (most of the time ) that canola is the oil to use.
