Thread: Lost recipe-- cranberry sauce

    Question Lost recipe-- cranberry sauce

This is kind of a strange one, but last Thanksgiving I found the perfect recipe (I thought) for people who hate cranberry sauce. It tasted like mulled wine-- in fact, it may have been called mulled wine cranberry sauce. I have no idea what magazine I got it from, but I believe it was one of those recipes sent in by a reader. I've already checked Epicurious without success. I can tell you it had some kind of red wine and a lot of spices, possibly crystalized ginger. Since we recently did a partial remodel, I've moved a lot of my things around, and I'm searching early to give myself plenty of time for Thanksgiving!

If anyone has a clue, please let me know while I continue my own search. Thanks.

Hi Gail. This has some ingredients reminding me of mulled wine. Hope this helps

    Cranberry Sauce With Port

A great do-ahead tradition — just spoon cooked sauce into an airtight container and refrigerate up to 4 days.

    Yields: 2 cups
    Work Time: 5 minutes
    Total Time: 20 minutes

    1 bag (12 ounces) cranberries (3 cups)
    1 cup Port wine
    3/4 cup sugar
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
In 2-quart saucepan, heat all ingredients to boiling over high heat, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat to medium and cook, uncovered, until most cranberries pop, about 5 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally. (Mixture will thicken as it chills.) Spoon sauce into serving bowl, cover and refrigerate until well chilled, about 3 hours or up to 4 days.

Oh Vanessa! You are amazing. Thank you. If that isn't the recipe, it's darn close. Was it from a magazine?
I was just sending you a message when this came in. Would you believe it was your mention of cranberries that got me looking for that recipe in the first place?

Gail. I am not sure where I got the recipe. I cut interesting recipes and glue them into notebooks kind of making my own improvised cookbooks. My husband in in charge of making indexes since I did not divide them by categories (as I probably should have)....Enjoy
